I think I'm going to have pouty cats today. We're in a pretty major heatwave, and most of their preferred windows face west, where they get absolutely hammered by hot afternoon sun, so I'm keeping the curtains closed.

@AllisonC Awwww! Chester absolutely loves the heat wave. Half the time he’s dozing under one shrub or other or on the pavers in full sun („molten cat syndrome“), the other half he’s as active as he was as a kitten. „Oh, look, a fly / leaf / blade of grass…!“

There was a bit of a ruckus the other morning, with the magpies going especially crazy so I went to possibly shoo them away and make sure they don’t attack the cat. As I was just about to step outside Chester came over the fence - whit a gigantic goldfish in his mouth. Me:“???!!??“

When I looked over to the neighbors‘ I saw that the magpies were chasing a heron away. Now that bird has been munching on the fish for months, although usually their dog usually protects the pond from this kind of thieves.

My assumption: The heron dropped the goldfish and Chester grabbed the strange glittering and wriggling thing. Chester is not the kind of cat that will accept wet paws, let alone play with water voluntarily.

Sadly the fish was beyond saving and we gave him a hasty burial.
