2:40 PM
That looks like it might be the breed of dog one of the guys in my old apartment complex (back when I lived in a really cheap one) had. I felt so bad for that dog... the guy was a heavy chain smoker (I had to stop using the laundry room near his unit, the hallway stunk too badly for me to breathe) so the poor dog's fur was stained yellow.

lol
@AllisonC sometimes they're a little naturally off white

@JourneymanGeek This one was specifically "cigarette tar yellow"

poor mutt
no risk of that for a future dog of mine ._.

The guy also liked walking him on a fully unlocked retractable leash and letting him dart under and behind vehicles. I don't even know how many times I almost ran over the poor thing because he'd effectively let him loose in the parking lot while people were trying to back out of their spaces.

erf
Ash stayed on the leash. I had one local old lady complain he was a sweet dog and could be trusted :D
so an idiot

2:43 PM
Total idiot. But the complex was really very cheap so it didn't exactly attract the best crowd. (It fit what I needed while in grad school but between that, the constant domestic disturbances from another location, the roaches, and the complex a block down with constant noise and kids playing in the street after dark... don't miss it!)

(and eh, I really miss having a dog, but parents are not for it and I need to be sure I can handle it, and I can't with this job)

(and by "playing in the street" I mean "laying down on the downslope of a steep hill on icy days and jumping up in front of my car while I was just trying to get home after class)

That's entirely responsible!

my neigbourhood is "not on the road" - its a little elevated "island" about the streets
but we have cyclists, and delivery bikes going illegally

2:46 PM
I had to call the cops on noise disturbances a lot over there. There was a night with repeated, extremely violent-sounding drunk fights in the parking lot where by the fourth time I was calling, I just got up to get ready for work early, because no sleep was happening that night.
My last place was on a weird little road. Very short, and "intersected" at both ends with the same road (it cut across a curve in that road). There were a couple office buildings at either end, but nothing around the complex but trees and a lake, so it was nice and quiet.

@AllisonC Yeah, but I NEARLY convinced my parents to get a dog once

The only downside was my big living room window looked straight out at a giant parking ramp, so I got it for FAR less than it should have gone for!

then basically every 2-3 weeks go "OH MY GOD THAT IS SO CUTE" Then convince myself to wait :D
@AllisonC not sure if that is bad or good :D

@JourneymanGeek I swear, my parents are the opposite. Neither of them knows how to function without a dog so as soon as one passes, they go find a new puppy.

future apartment apparently overlooks a roof garden
@AllisonC Mom is convinced it will make travelling harder
dad is one of those goes mushy but loses temper easily sorts

2:49 PM
@JourneymanGeek oh it was GREAT! It was a huge apartment in a pet-friendly complex, generally higher priced units so better neighbors overall, I had a nice little balcony surrounded by trees to help shield it from the apartment parking lot, there was a nice fitness center and walking trails around it. And I could close the blinds on the ramp. :)

so eh
I'll get myself where I can "D

@JourneymanGeek My parents constantly travel with their two. I'm not sure they're actually "good" at traveling, but they travel a lot. :)

The new development is car lite/has nearby parks
@AllisonC oh, mom goes india to temples
so even if we would bring doggos along, it would be luggage class + quarantine
we used to leave ash at a pet hotel or take curns
*turns
and tbh unless I get married (and matchmaking hasn't worked at all so far) we won't alll go at once
and I think I can get someone to home dog-sit for an appropriate bribe :D

@JourneymanGeek Oh that's definitely more challenging than my parents taking road trips. :) (and they do still board for longer-distance ones)

2:53 PM
Do you have any apps for things like that there? I know here we have one called "Rover" where you can set up someone to drop in to care for a pet, walk a dog, or care for them in their home; my housemate uses it as a side gig

Don"t think so

(I just have the cats and aquarium-dwellers. The most traveling they do is the fluffy cat goes to the pet food store sometimes.)
That's too bad. It seems to make things easier for owners, especially when boarding places are getting booked up so much now that people are back to work and need a place to watch their covid pets.

I got nothing for now

Sometimes that's the right option too

3:18 PM
For the hypothetical dog, yes

@AllisonC were we housemates once? Our former neighbors had two such poor pooches. They were white for a few days after their spring shave, then constantly darkened from there on.

(Anyway, I have an interview tommorrow, and if I get that job, hopefully the working hours get less crazy)
+ full remote work

@JourneymanGeek fingers crossed & good luck!

2 hours later…
5:25 PM
@Stephie Oh goodness, that's so sad :( I hate seeing dogs stuck in situations like that, no matter how well cared for they might otherwise be they're suffering unnecessarily from all that smoke and tar
@JourneymanGeek fingers crossed for you!
