Q: What happens if my leopard gecko goes white and stayed white for a long time

RebeccaMy leopard gecko turned white and it has been white for two or three days. I don’t think it is shedding because it usually shedes it’s skin in a day. What would be wrong with it?

Q: Dog crying all nights

MHBMy adult shiba howls only during nights, every night, since six nights ago. It seems like he is in a big pinch needing to walk, but we go walk succesive times and nonetheless he is never satisfied. Feces look normal. Moreover, he seems not to want to get back home. And he looks more obsessive sni...

new link to the cheetah youtube.com/watch?v=ntKC2gYEbpU the zoo thinks she might be having a false pregnancy(new x-rays have to be taken later today) i will be updating this when i get the information.

3:49 AM
hey folks good morning.
@trondhansen @motosubatsu I have myself witnessed the influence of cat upon people. Earlier when I used to buy costly food and bear costly medical expenses for Bhutu mom used to get angry. Now, she will herself go hungry but buy the best for Bhutu. Wonderful, isn't it?

@trondhansen aw.
What happens if it is I wonder

@JourneymanGeek i do not know but i think the zoo have a plan for this :) i have been manipulated by cats before but not on this level,she does have all the signs of being pregnant big belly silly walk sleeping more :)
the silly walk part is probably not very nice to say,i hope she will not read this :)

@trondhansen wow, I've never heard of this! So the body just exhibits the symptoms but there's no baby?

@trondhansen it's a thing

it is crazy that it is possible.

Well, it's been pretty interesting to watch it happen
Like when there was that eagle baby that we watched grow :D

she is a beuty pregnant or not.i do not think anybody knew they just asumed she was pregnant with all the signs.

9:16 AM
Lol. Lots of people just watch her doze lol

lots of people loosing sleep over this :)

Lol yes
She gets a quarter screen when I'm not working on things :p

1300 people on Wednesday evening watching her sleep live :P
(and me)

LOL.i invited one of the mods over here when this is over :)

Haha, neat :)

9:27 AM

Trond found a link to a livestream of a Chettah that might be pregnant
We've been watching it for a few days now.

Q: White patches/spots on my betta

MahaThere are white patch/spot like mark on my betta fish's gill and body which was not there when i bought him from the store. He is his usual active self and eating properly. The spots seemed to have appeared after i have done water change. I use seachem water conditioner to treat tap water that i ...

1:01 PM
@Henders I downvoted the question, as Ithink that to stop the huge number of betta fish duplicates, this is the only option.

Duplicates should be flagged as such. That one is asking about a white patch on the fish. They don't say anywhere that it is lying on the bottom of the tank so it isn't a duplicate of the one that trond linked imo

@Henders agreed.. symptoms are different, no lethargy, different color patches
it's a good question IMO
they even provided a picture without having to be asked and provided the pertinent info about the recent water change as a possible cause

Q: Is my betta getting old or is he sick?

ReaganMy Betta fish has white patches on his fins. One of the patches has a small whole in the middle. There are no signs of dulling scales, red/bulging eyes, or any other signs I found that could mean he is sick. The only other possible symptom he seems to have is that he like to sleep a lot but he ha...

@henders actually this should be the duplicate that should be chosen. But as it is again duplicate of another, the system is not allowing me to mark this one as duplicate
@trondhansen edited you answer to make English better and added the essential information of, "kidney and urinary tract diseases" that develop in cats if they don't properly drink water.

1:30 PM
@Sonevol The white patch is on the body of the fish though, not the fin.
I didn't look for a dupe myself yet but it doesn't seem to be either of those two

@Henders I rather think, answer of @motosubatsu should be migrated to the old question and question be marked not duplicate.

What is the old question you are referring to?

That's not a duplicate of this question though. That talks about white spots and holes in fins and says:
> The only other possible symptom he seems to have is that he like to sleep a lot
Which would mean that question is a duplicate of it's target but this new one is not.

@Henders although not an exact duplicate the older question is also likely to be a case of Ich - the hole in the fin and increased sleeping are symptoms of a more advanced case
the holes come about when the fish tries to "scratch" the affected area by rubbing it against tank furniture and it can cause tears

1:42 PM
Possible but very difficult to say without a picture IMO

@Sonevol thank you for the edit it looks good.

@Henders @motosubatsu then the old question is a much better duplicate of the new question trather than the present duplicate marked.

@Henders very true - I'd be wary of just saying "that's what it is"
I think illness questions are ones to be wary of labelling dupes - too many things can look very similar to lay people

It's a hard call even with photos. That one in the question is handily bigger if you open it in a new tab
most of the time the pictures on fish questions are poor quality.

@trondhansen thanks god you are happy, based on recent events with everybody, I thought you might give an angry reply, "Hey! how can you add information to my answer without taking my permission before hand?"

1:47 PM
@Sonevol i am not a bad person,i hope :)

@trondhansen :) :)

the zoo here in norway promised an update at noon but i have not heard any thing yet about the cheetah,i think they are talking about what to do.

@Sonevol You can always show them this page: pets.stackexchange.com/help/editing
It explains why you're allowed
although it doesn't always help :P

2:02 PM
trine is a funny cat she sits where the plumbing enters the house and hunts mice that follow the pipes inside my house,she have got two mice in 12 hrs and i have to clean up the mess she makes(blood and stuff)

@trondhansen Bhutu is so terribly afraid that in this huge house, she is refusing to come out of my small study room
The issue is teddy bear
Bhutu knows that the huge teddy belongs to her

@trondhansen heh, my gran's old dog used to do that with rats, then stash them.

So wherever that girl is moving, irrespective of teddy bear, Bhutu is getting afraid of the place

Street dog so tough little fella.

Till now he has not seen the girl enter my study room
So she is feeling safe only there.
Any soultion in sight?
Or like any question like this already asked in this site

2:08 PM
@Sonevol cats can be strange.

@trondhansen so is there any question already existing or shall I ask one?

@Sonevol i do not know maby just respect her opinion about it.it is not something that realy needs an answer cats are cats and they have strong opinions about how things should be.

@trondhansen irreasonable opinion, the fear of teddy, similar to like arachnophobias in human.

@JourneymanGeek the dog does a valueable job we do not want rats inside :)

@trondhansen the stashing though

2:18 PM
my cat is terrible cat, she din't even put a paw mark on the rat, just sniffed and played chasing it.

i do understand the problem:) i had a male cat stashing squirrel tails beside the door outside.

He was a cool dog ;p

Bhutu always likes to assemble caps of water bottles
She is a soccer player and plays soccer with them

@Sonevol some cats are hoarders collecting hair bands bottle caps you name it.trine hunted door mats when i got her she dragged them from the hallway thru the kitchen and into the living room and then into the bedroom a crazy cat :)
i am talking about the rubber type so they where heavy.

2:32 PM
@JourneymanGeek Nice collar!

@Henders its... very pink

@JourneymanGeek Easy to find though :P

Not tempted to get something like that for Ash? I think pink would look very fetching!

naw
and no more collars for him

2:35 PM
Ohhh he has the harness now

Its red ;p
yeah, vet said he can't wear collars cause his windpipe's narrowed/collapsing

I quite like the harness thing, I think maybe I'll exclusively use on for my dog.
Maybe
one day :P

Depends on the dog
we started with a harness but ash hated it

now how cool is this one ???????

2:42 PM
@Sonevol i had a leash on my male cat once when i was on vacation on an island out in the fjord here but he strugged so his paws started to bleed so never again on any of my cats.

I think leash is the thing, meant only for indoor cats. @trondhansen
Here another sad event is taking place, the cat who is Bhutu's lover, his owner is not giving him food properly. He is getting week by the day and presently even skeletons can be seen.

on the island there was eagles and other large birds and he was a kitten back then.a leash is more usefull in a city where one needs to controll the cat to not be run over by cars and traffic.

JAD
why does an indoor cat need a leash?

I guess because otherwise you can't have your windows open

Here we have screens in the windows. :) A leash for an indoor cat is to get them time outside, though my two older cats don't care for it. The kitten took to a leash and harness well when I took her out.

2:52 PM
@JAD if one wants to take the cat outdoors it is a way to avoid the cat running away and to controll it.

Do indoor cats enjoy outdoor time?

@AllisonC here leash is exactly for the opposite reason. So that Bhutu doesn't wonder off outside. Conditions outside are extremely lethal.
@Henders yeah u r correct
@JAD this is why ^^^^

@Sonevol No, the exact reason for leashes is so they cannot wander off outside.

So they don't wear 'em in the house?

In my cat's case always, she taken on leash for walk. Both outside and inside

3:04 PM
@Henders Nope, it's not good for them to wear all the time, they can't get out of them if they get hung up on something like they can with a collar.
Mine only wear them in the house if I need to evacuate to the basement for bad weather and don't have time to set up the carrier.

@AllisonC That sounds serious. Do you mind me asking which country you live in?

Otherwise she may wander off outside into lethal conditions.

@Sonevol Can you get screen covers for your windows and doors?

@Henders United States. I'm in the north/midwest, where we get tornadoes sometimes. That's often just a few minutes of warning.

No, there is a collapsible huge iron gate, with no additional door.

3:08 PM
@AllisonC Wow, that's pretty scary
@Sonevol Ah, that's your front door?

not the houses's front door, our area's entry @Henders

Ah

@Henders It can be, thankfully I live in a city now and that tends to break up the winds a bit more, though it has still been hit in the past. Before the season starts again I need to get some practice with evacuating my roommates' dogs in addition to my cats.

That sounds very wise, you can never be too prepared! Not sure what I'd do with my fish if I lived there!

@AllisonC Have you seen wolves. I think wolves are there in the snowy regions.

3:11 PM
When there was a fire, we had to just leave and hope the fish were alright... I didn't enjoy that. They were fine. I came back and they were like 'hey! got any food with you?' :p

@Sonevol I haven't seen any wild here, they don't come into the city, but they are around the state. We have some of the native ones at the zoos here. :) I've seen some coyotes around the city though.

That volcano basin where wolves are there, how far it is from your place? @AllisonC

Quite far. :) The US is a large country, it would take me a full day to drive there.

Forgot the name, what's the name of the basin?

Yellowstone

3:14 PM
yep

I've never actually been there, myself, but we have a lot of wildnerness here (Minnesota), too.

Over here only foxes are there, and wild dogs
The largest wolves in world are in Tibbet

We have a lot of wildlife. I've seen deer, turkeys, geese, ducks, coyotes, rabbits in the city, and there's a lot more too.

Wild rabbits?

India is the only country to have Asiatic lions

3:23 PM
@Henders Yep, wild rabbits. You'll see them sometimes, and I've been seeing their footprints after snowfalls a lot too.

update from the zoo the cheetah is not pregnant she might have lost the babies at an early stage of pregnancy they do not know how long it might take to get her into heat again,it might take a few weeks or a few months but they will try again :)

@trondhansen Ohhhh, that's a shame

is it right to make carnivores go hungry once a week? Here the zoos don't feed the carnivores once a week?

@trondhansen it's really a shame, hopefully the next attempt goes well for her. I'm hoping I can see that stream, too, I've enjoyed watching her

@Henders it have still been a nice experience and these things do happen,one positive thing the zoo do now knows how to take x-rays whitout sedating the cheetah :)

3:28 PM
how?

Wow, how? :O
@Sonevol Yeah, it simulates how they'd eat in the wild.

must be very docile @Henders

@Sonevol the cheetah is clicker trained to go onto the scale so they can take the x-rays.

wow ...........
So, won't it be good for domestic cats as well? @Henders

and the vet knows how to do it :)

3:35 PM
Wow, so they just hop onto the scales and they take an xray?
That's clever
I think this is the key point:
> Dessuten har mange lært mer om geparder enn de kunne fra før. Det er det viktigste utgangspunktet for å opprettholde en levedyktig bestand.
I learnt a lot about Cheetahs during this :D

So did I, and I've enjoyed just watching her, even if she's mostly sleeping when I'm watching

may be, why not, I can keep pet Cheetah. Their behavior exactly smiliar to house cats, those who can well handle a cat can easily handle a cheetah

Keeping exotic animals is not a good idea. And considering my cat can draw blood accidentally while playing, I would rather not have him or her be large enough to kill me.

i realy have to say i am not disapointed at all.i realy loves cats if i had not had this on my pc i had seen my own cat sleep.it is not legal to keep cheetahs as pets but they have been used by people to hunt before.

@trondhansen I'm not either, thank you for sharing it :) I subscribed so hopefully I can see the next stream they do

3:48 PM
If you are confident enough you don't have to worry. Bhutu never makes any accident with me, I have such a control on her. She loves to play wrestling, so sometimes I intentionally allow her to bite my hand. Over here, the thing works like this, you have full trust, the cheetah will never harm you and the cheetah has full trust that you will not hurt the cheetah

@trondhansen there are a few places in the world where it's legal to keep Cheetahs as pets - but they are very difficult to care for and while not in the same category of risk as something like a Tiger they aren't just bigger cats
they also need a lot of space for exercise and frequently are obtained for pet purposes in ways that are illegal and actively harmful to the currently precarious wild population

the live feed will continue during the weekend and the interrest in cheetahs will probably not drop after this:)

It is most difficullt to breed pandas in captivity. Their population is threatened too.

@motosubatsu they have no problem at all if they want to kill you.

4:03 PM
@trondhansen oh absolutely - they are less likely to want to do so than say a tiger (because you aren't seen as a menu item) but if they want to.. you're so much bloody meat on the floor
to be properly happy and healthy they also need a great deal of open space

You will not understand. Only I can understand. I believe that because no one has as deep mental bond with animals. There can trust to extent, cheetah will remain partly hungry but share food with you

To be fair, there was a guy who lived with grizzly bears. He knew everything about them and lived with them for years. One day, one of his favourite grizzly bears killed him. The mistake it's easy to make is to think that you do have full control over any animal.

4:20 PM
@motosubatsu the people in this zoo do realy love the animals they have it was obvious that they where disapointed during the press conference,but they do not need to be they have given me a positive experience that is of great value for me.

@trondhansen yeah, everything I've seen suggests that they want nothing but the best for the animals under their care

It's quite a novel experience to see a live stream of such an exotic animal too. I don't know other zoos that do that.

here they do

@Sonevol Oh cool! Have you got any links, I'd love to watch :)

here forest guards know how to control wild tigers
can you believe, in Gir Forest nearby road, two villagers were eating meat, a stray lion came and begged for meat, they shooed away the lion, and didn't share their meet

4:38 PM
at the end of this video at about 20,00 you can see her last litter getting some exsercise.two of them now live in jerusalem zoo.youtube.com/watch?v=pEC-SWOX5Pw

I bet nowhere in the world you can see stray ions raoming in cities

I meant links to the live streams from the zoos.

yeah just shared these comedies

I don't think it's funny to tease a lion...

@Henders Not live streams but there's quite a decent amount of videos here: youtube.com/user/BlackpoolZoo1/videos

4:50 PM
Oh interesting, thanks :)

the lion cub video is, it has to be said utterly adorable

It looks like the free zoo here occasionally does live streams, I found a couple of references to them doing streams of reindeer for Christmas, and other animals at other times.
And the paid zoo has done them, too, for some baby animals. I should be paying more attention to these things!

:)

@Sonevol I thought you meant there were live streams in indian zoos. This one is in Kansas :P
@AllisonC Heh, we'll all be watching live streams forever now :P

4:58 PM
:)

@Henders it's better than watching development stacks build because I can't work right now :( I'd much rather watch a cheetah!

Agree ^ :P

@AllisonC fantastic answer to the cat sitting Q btw

@motosubatsu Thanks! I've used a lot of cat sitters. :) Including one who had to stay at my place because my cat was very sick at the time (and sadly passed away not long after that). Lots of experience to draw on.

goes to read

5:05 PM
@Henders are you aware that the number of tigers in US zoos is more than the number found in nature?

@AllisonC indeed! Sorry to hear about your cat btw

@AllisonC sorry to hear it

@motosubatsu Thank you. He was an amazing cat, I still miss him. I've since adopted three other cats from rescues.

@Sonevol I guess that sounds about right. Tiger numbers in the wild are scary.

He was also a male calico, I'll likely never be lucky enough to have another one of those in my life.

5:09 PM
the lions of India, you cannot say them to be truly wild lions. Due to lion overpopulation more and more lions are now living in locality. Moreover due to overhunting by lions prey is in scarcity. All the wild lions are officially fed by state government. More over there are government build reservors where lions come to drink water

@AllisonC Are they rare?
( I know nothing about cat breeds)

@Henders Calico is a coloring, not a breed. :) They're very rare, because the genes that produce the coat colors are X-chromosome linked, so to have both orange/cream and brown/black, the cat needs two X-chromosomes (white isn't chromosome linked).

@Henders exceedingly.. the characteristics that cause the coloring are usually on the chromosomes that also make cats female

So if you see a calico/tri-color cat, it's almost definitely going to be female, and if male, it's XXY

@AllisonC beat me to it

5:14 PM
Oh wow!
There's my cat ignorance :P
Man, that is a shame then :/
Sorry to hear

No worries. :) It's more ignorant when I see people claim that a male calico is impossible. It's not, it's just very, very rare.
He was also leash-trained and extremely social so he'd get a lot of attention going out into pet stores. Lots of people at least got to meet my calico boy.

Presumably cat people knew how rare he was too

Many of them did, yes. I met one person leaving the vet who said she wanted her biology professor to meet him, because he insisted male calicos were impossible.

Haha!
That would have been amazing

5:41 PM
