o/
good morning

7:15 AM
Morning. Here's a video I made quickly of Charlie eating to command. This is how all guide dogs (at least in the UK) are trained.

@Snow is the bone meant to slow him down?

Yes, exactly that. There's also water in with the kibbles too. It just stops him from gulping huge mouthfuls of food at once.

2 hours later…
9:38 AM
@Snow We have, long ago, given up with food control, except by rationing. Bailey wolfs down everything immediately, so we give him several smaller portions throughout the day, (especially in this hot weather).

Yeah, we give Charlie his food like this and he does take a good couple of minutes to eat his bowl. We also give him a frozen Kong at lunch (slows him down a lot), and treats. We take those out of his daily allowance, so we're not overfeeding him through the treats.

Ahoy!

9:55 AM
ash... is a wee bit aristrocratic for a mystery mutt and does not wolf down his food.
it is.. undignified.

More like a cat than a dog then....

1 hour later…
11:01 AM
@JourneymanGeek Classy dog :P Does he occasionally wear a monocle?

11:20 AM
@Henders he could!
he also had a tendancy of stealing my mom's good sik saris and rolling in it cause he's fond of her perfume ;p

@JourneymanGeek I bet she loved that!!

@Henders she's torn between horror and awwww

@JourneymanGeek lol, use the perfume on his basket.

Hahaha, I bet

@MartinJames he likes to roll in it
sometimes mom would spray a bit on a piece of tissue and he'd just go nuts on it
or indian borage

11:24 AM
@MartinJames Or on your floor just after you've applied polish to it :P

@JourneymanGeek It's possibly more her personal scent than added perfume. Not much can be done about that;)

@JourneymanGeek Maybe because he thinks that's his pack scent?

@MartinJames well he associates the perfume with her I think
I got a video of him doing it with indian borage
lemme go find it
warning upside down male dog. if that sorta thing offends you, look away ;)

12:13 PM
Well..

Well...

1:08 PM
@Snow lol: "I'm too comfortable, make me move from here and I'll end you"

Yes, that's often the case. He'll also just lie down in the back of the car and point blank refuse to move out of it.
But show him a kibble and miraculously his paralysis is cured!

@Snow lol. Open the hatch, put down the back seats, get back in, engage 1st gear, rev up, pop the clutch :)

Tempting...

@Snow ..or a dog treat :)

1:21 PM
^ Majestic

We have this one framed. Was pretty easy filter on the iphone.

I'd like to think there's some deep thought going on there :p

But you know of course, there isn't....

Yeah, 'Hey is that my tail back there? Quick! Get it!'

Yep. I can still get him to bite his own tail.

1:33 PM
Haha, how?!

Just by gently bending around so he can see it and swatting his nose with it.

Q: Proposal to rename [desexing] tag to [neutering]

Harry V.For UK/US users desexing is not a tag most would think to look for when refering to spay, neuter, castration, etc. In fact "desexing" is a term that I (a vet) have never heard used by any veterinary professional. It does seem that it is primarily an Australian term, but I have not practiced there...

2:18 PM
@Snow Haha, that's brilliant :P

2:29 PM
Bailey and I have been for a paddle. Not at seaside - the ballcock in the cattle trough jammed and stuck open, resulting in a new. cool pool. While B. splashed and drank, I freed off the valve, so i don't know how long we'll have the paddling pool:(
The jammed valve happens frequently. I'm not sure why the farmer does not fix the trough properly but, probably, his inflated water bill is not noticed as it is dwarfed by EC subsidy payments and so the leak never gets any effort to fix it:(

2:52 PM
Wow, that grass is going to grow well in the next few days.
All the grass around me is brown and dead :P

Same here.

3:31 PM
@Henders Yeah - there will be a little oasis of green round the trough. The rest a barren wasteland of white/brown.

Heh, those cows will be happy

@Henders yeah:) They can only get at one side of the trough since it's 'embedded' in a fence, so that leaves 'our' side a free and untrampled pool. I'm afraid that I've thought about jamming the valve open myself a couple times:)
If the pool is still around later, I'll take my phone and get a pic of him cooling his heels/paws.

@MartinJames Yeah, that sounds necessary in this weather...
I wonder if it is as hot where @trondhansen is!

4:00 PM
Stupid dog lurched away and the lead spoiled the pic:(

Oh wow, that is deep!

2 hours later…
5:51 PM
@Henders Yeah - but you can still see the gound underneath has been badly cracked by the drying-out of the field before the trough overflowed.

6:15 PM
Yeah, crazy
