Q: What could happen if my 3 year old boxer does not reproduce?

MichelleI have a 3 year old male boxer and until now I have not find him a partner to reproduce with. Could it be negative consequences about it? What is the limit of years such that the boxer can be in abstinence? He is a very healthy dog, he still likes to play a lot like if he were a puppy. I have...

Hello. I have a question: Is it normal that a newborn puppy (11 days old) is not making stools in a normal way? Days ago the puppy was doing normal but today I notice the change.

3:39 AM
Not normal how?

Q: How can I make my dog guest show that she needs the toilet rather than that she wants to go home?

Belle-SophieMy parents have a female border collie of 5 or 6 years old. I have lived with my parents (and the border collie) up until recently. I have my own place now. She’s visiting while my parents are on vacation. She knows how to ask to go to the toilet. She nudges you with her nose and walks a few st...

@trondhansen Sorry to hear that!

8:31 AM
G'mornin'!

That appears to be a dog
and he is clearly not fishing. so is a good dog.

haha

@RichieACC Big dog!
This is Loki?

That's a lake near my house. Some friends and I had a BBQ there one sunny day last winter.
@Henders Indeed

What is he?

8:36 AM
Great Dane

My family have had great danes for most of my life. Kinda like the royals and corgis. When I look at him, I see a dog. Just a normal dog. Any other dogs are small dogs to me :p

Is that shadow of someone holding a gun to that poor dog's head and making it stand still?

8:57 AM
@Snow Did you delete your answer to my question? Since it's gone. Do you mind discussing what you think in chat?

@Snow haha! No. I can't remember what was making that shadow.
@Belle-Sophie Welcome to the Litter Box!

@RichieACC Thanks :D Hi all!

@Belle-Sophie Sorry. It sounded like you wanted a more in-depth answer to the one that I provided.

@Snow It's okay. I was wondering why you thought that. I've always been in the alpha or at least beta position in the 'pack' in my experience.
She's still showing 'not leader of the pack' signs, like eating after we finished. I did notice that she's more easily triggered. She barked at my boyfriend coming in and my brother mentioned that she had been barking to his best friend entering the house when she was still at home with him (my brother lives with our parents still and watched the dog before he went away for a trip himself)
Normally she's super quiet and easygoing. She's very social, constantly making sure that everyone is okay. If you're sleeping on the sofa too quietly, she'll come lick your face.

9:41 AM
@Belle-Sophie Welcome! :)

@Belle-Sophie I'm fine with barking dogs - it's at least understandable behaviour. With care, I can sit down 'say hello' and make friends with them really quick:) What puts me on guard is dogs that don't bark and just stand there, staring - I back off and leave.

@MartinJames Haha yeah, that's true! She normally wags her tail at him when he comes in, though. So it's a change in behaviour. She's on guard suddenly and I have to explicitly tell her it is okay for a person she knows to enter the house.

Stop the posting of adorable things! I'll squeeee and my boss will wonder what I'm doing.

@Belle-Sophie The cute foals etc are an occupational hazard here, but I would not usually describe the pics as NSFW:)

@MartinJames are you trying to tell her I'm horse obsessed???
@Belle-Sophie it's true, I'm horse obsessed

@YvetteColomb Yes, but that's fine by me:)

@YvetteColomb Horses are adorable
I was wondering about something... My new apartment is really quiet, I really miss having a furry friend (boyfriend is not that furry). We both work fulltime, I'm personally gone shortest, 8-5, but that's still way too long for a dog.
Would a cat work?

JAD
depends more on the size of the apartment than how much you are at home
Dogs need a buddy, cats need a servant. If the servant buggers off, that's fine as long as food is being delivered whenever they're home

10:00 AM
@Belle-Sophie You on ground floor, so can have a cat flap?

@JAD It's 120m2.

JAD
damn that's big. nice

@MartinJames I'm not, unfortunately. The door leads to a rooftop garden that is shared. Then an elevator. I'd rather not risk the cat getting lost in the elevator.

JAD
should be more than enough to keep an indoors cat

@JAD I'll have to convince the landlady to let us have a cat then :)

10:03 AM
@Belle-Sophie :( also, check your lease - there may be pet restrictions...

Q: Dog goes crayze on leash when sees other dogs

EdwinSo I have a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriver that goes everyday of the week to a dog-kindergarden. So the whole day stays with other dogs, plays, sleeps and whatever dogs do there. However, when we are walking on leash and he sees other dog he just pulls at max force thowards that other dog and ...

@Belle-Sophie Otherwise, get a bunny :)

@MartinJames There are, written permission required for pets. I already got permission for my parents' dog to visit.
@RichieACC That's an option too. Never had one. Are they friendly?

JAD
yeah
IIRC they can even be potty trained
only thing is that they might chew on cables

I was very little when we had bunnies. So I can't really speak from experience. They were also not indoor pets. They were in a pen outside. And they were not tame.
If you're keen to have a bunny, there are some bunny questions that you can look through, or you could ask your own.

10:09 AM
@Belle-Sophie cat would probably be better. Dogs like company

cats do too, but they're not as socially bound

Is it better to get two cats or bunnies?

@Belle-Sophie JamesJenkins is our resident rabbit expert :P

lol, I'm working from home today, and have the heater on in my study. It's now the only warm place in the house. The cats are nowhere to be seen. I don't think they care whether I'm here or not.

10:11 AM
I also considered a bird or maybe two.
I'd give them a cage to sit/sleep in, but leave it open most of the time. Are they okay being alone during work?

@Belle-Sophie @RebeccaRVT is our resident bird expert :p

You have experts on everything, hm?

Haha, not really :P Just so happened that the two things you talked about we did :P

We don't have a snail expert

Yeah, no answers on your Q :/

10:23 AM
@Belle-Sophie cats never get lost. Also one of our local, old strays would climb up 25 floors for no apparent reasons

Exercise?

I may get a cat then :)

You'll have to post a lot of pictures here then :P
I'm just hoping that @Snow posts another one of their schnauzer :P

@Henders cats are mysterious beings

@JourneymanGeek Maybe it preferred the air pressure?

10:26 AM
shrug cats ;p

Prrf, cats, eh?
:p

That's novo. His ears are drunk

Hahaha, Ash is just looking at him :p

My parents' Collie. Next to the pillow is better than on it, apparently.

@Belle-Sophie Awww cute!!
I love collies

10:49 AM
Mollie is a Royalist through and through.

@Snow Yay! \o/ so cute :P

There's probably a caption here...

11:20 AM
@Snow "Sorry, Mollie can't come to the phone - she's tied up at the moment"
I'm hungry. For some reason, I fancy a hot dog.

Wow... :p
That's Charlie though, right?

He is. Mollie would never do such a stupid thing.

@JAD That's what my passport says ;)

also, someone there is a pokemon fan

@Henders A cute dog by any other name... :)

@JAD Seems so

I always think they look naked without a collar :p

Free, they look free....

I see the royalist theme continues :P

Just step over me....

@Snow lol 'I'm all ears'
@Snow Hey! You dog is leaking out!

1:22 PM

1:35 PM
@Snow I like the radar ear: "dog treat detected at 9 O'clock, range 50 metres"

JAD
ugh, I need weekend -_-
falling asleep here

1:52 PM
Do I look like I'm having fun in here?

@Henders lol well now! I wish I knew more then I do!
@Belle-Sophie depends on the species you think of getting. All parrots should have a flock, having multiples is beneficial for their health.

@Belle-Sophie aww
I wonder whatever happened to the collie up for adoption a few months ago :(
(I utterly adore collies but its impractical for me to adopt or get one)

@JAD Nearly there!

I'm working this weekend lol

EUGGGHGHHHHGGGGHHHh

2:05 PM
but I have a 3 day rather than 2 day break next week, since I used one of my off days.

Nice! I'm only doing a 3 day week next week \o/

well I do a 3 or 4 day week.
12 hour shifts (which are survivable) 1.5 hours travel time each way, which is a pain

@Henders I did only one day in a week once. :P

Q: Should my dog be able to clean out an appropriately sized Kong?

TashusWe have a Kong classic for our 1 year-old dog. She loves the Kong and spends plenty of time with it, but there always ends up being about half of an inch of peanut butter stuck at the very bottom of the interior. Does this mean that the Kong is too small for her tongue? Should she be able to cle...

Q: House gecko for sustainable basement insect control?

EnigmaI'm playing with the idea of getting a house gecko and letting it live in my basement to feed on any insects it may come across. I'd like to keep a small controlled habitat for it but leave it open so it can come and go as it needs. In the winter however, the basement isn't fully heated. Some b...

Q: Inactive and scared inside, rambunctious playful outside

T. Penland We just got a new puppy 2 days ago. Since we got her she has barely moved. Inside she lays around scared but outside she is a completely different dog. She plays she runs but she is still very shy. She was outside in a pen since she was born so I know this is a new experience for her. She won’t ...

Q: Dog continually licking thighs

SeiyriaMy oldest pet dog (male, 2.5y/o, shih tzu/bichon mix) has had a little bit of a problem lately, he will not stop licking his thighs. We've done this: given him small doses of dog benadryl (we thought it might be allergies) given him pain medication (we were told from an emergency clinic that h...
