Q: What causes urinary stones in cats?

GoldNugget8So, my cat recently underwent surgery for urinary stones. Luckily, the veterinarian caught it early and he is now doing well. I am wondering if this can be caused by diet, or lifestyle, etc. Also, what is the difference between digestive and urinary food? My cat has digestive issues, and I am won...

@Ash well I tried - I think the moose we had maybe had legs - I stole this pic from the internet without attribution - so am setting a really bad example

user15026
I appreciate the effort at any rate! :)

I think this moose is really cute :)

@CeilingCat I asked for clarification. That seems like a pretty confusing question..

12:13 PM
There are several moose images on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose maybe would could have an election to pick the best free moose image from there (or other source) at meta?

12:43 PM

lol, that has my vote :P

I'm always surprised by how many people ask a question and never come back to it.
They never come and read the comments afterwards or accept answers.
Not that I think there is much that can be done about that, of course...

1:42 PM
@Henders I have some questions on the network I've never accepted an answer to. The answers just weren't really helpful. Example: diy.stackexchange.com/questions/33263/…

@Zaralynda Yeah, but you've actively discussed the answers given. Sorry, let me clarify. I meant They never come and accept an answer or make any recognition that they received answers at all
Your case is totally understandable.
But in some cases the OP never posts again after the initial question

@Henders yeah I always assume they found the site through a search but then forgot where it was and don't have an easy way to get back

Yeah true. You'd think you'd have some kind of welcome email from SE but maybe I'm over-thinking...

2:01 PM
@Henders you're assuming people read their email, and didn't use a fake address or something they only use for random websites that they don't check

True...

Can we ban the website dogs naturally magazine? Lol i seen toothless refer to it, that website is the devil.
Everything on that site goes against veterinary medicine, it gives such bad advice and has no science to back it up. Hard core homeopathy

Guess that's a case for downvoting and commenting the answers that refer to it
got any examples? I don't seem to be able to find that URL... Maybe I'm searching badly :P

Yes, i know its not really feasible lol i just really hate that webite

The whole concept is flawed anyway :P I've never understood it!

His answer was partially correct, dogs dont eat poo because they are malnourished. Lol if they are hungry in general they can resort to poop eating
I can once i sit at a pc

Lol :P

4:18 PM
on a pc
I don't even want to go to this website LOL
@Henders just from browsing, on their flea prevention it says to feed dogs garlic - this won't do ANYTHING to prevent fleas lol
and is toxic to dogs in large doses
oh my god this one is even worse
This one claims vaccines will kill your dog and you should do homeopathy detox

4:40 PM
Well, that seems legit... :P
I feed my fish garlic sometimes to make them eat their greens

I posted a comment on that answer pointing to chat. Maybe they will come discuss it, or maybe they will modify the answer...
@YvetteColomb I also tried searching for posts containing
dogsnaturallymagazine and it came up empty. Are you able to find more occurrence of it.
@RebeccaRVT I don't think banning the site is good choice (free speech, differing opinions and all that) but using comments and votes is a good choice.

@JamesJenkins I had the same issue
Best I can do: google.co.uk/…
Here is a data explorer query:
It lists 3:
https://pets.stackexchange.com/a/10363/6826
https://pets.stackexchange.com/a/5419/6826
https://pets.stackexchange.com/a/17525/6826 (the one you referenced)

it was only once lol
@JamesJenkins yes it was a partial joke lol

5:09 PM
@Henders thanks for finding them. At a quick glance, it seems like all are used in good faith without realizing how bad of reference they are. The other two answers use multiple references, so this might have been just a random choice. If you are motivated you could find better references that meet the answers need and update the answers. Your call on that.
@RebeccaRVT Yes, I know what you mean.

👍
Ill take a peak at them after, i just made a detailed answer on an old question. Work has started for me! :)
Just installed the stackexchange app. Is there a way to make a chat shortcut?

Q: My cat keeps peeing in the basement

Squirt's OwnerMy cat keeps peeing in my basement. We've tried having two litter boxes, changing the litter, having only one litter box, changing his food, and more!He doesn't have any health issues, he's strictly indoors (Completely by his choice. He hates the outdoors.), the only pet in the house besides a cr...

Q: What size of hutch would be right for two mini lops?

AnonymousWarning, I am completely new to owning rabbits! Have had guinea pigs/hamsters in the past but no rabbits. I am interested in buying two mini lop rabbits and have a large garden but a small budget. What would be the best sized hutch for them that is not too expensive? Would it be OK to just have...

How many reviewers does it take to review something?

6:30 PM
@JamesJenkins I'll get it put on the watch list in chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/11540/charcoal-hq that way there will be a notification if it's posted to users in that chat room (I'm one)
@RebeccaRVT I've put it on a watchlist in a room that monitors spam on the site and I will arrange to get notifications is it's used - that way we won't miss it if it's used and can decide what to do with posts linking to the site
@Henders good question

6:47 PM
Apparently since I now have a gold badge in the cats tag I can mark things duplicate by myself? pets.stackexchange.com/questions/17901/…
I wasn't expecting that
I always feel a little weird about litter box duplicates anyway, since they usually have different resolutions, but the answers we can give from a distance are all the same so.... I don't know

@Zaralynda if in doubt, don't
Also - duplicate questions are not necessarily a bad thing to have on the site. On Stack Overflow there comes a point where there's 100s of duplicates of the same question - we don't want that, but often duplicates will offer a larger range of answers. If the answers are not offering more help - then it can be preferable to delete duplicate questions
@JamesJenkins for sure!
@Henders congrats :)
@RebeccaRVT and dogs in puppy mills can do it, when they're not able to get at the food - they can pick up that habit :(

7:10 PM
@YvetteColomb we've already got a ton of questions that I would write basically the same answer for; I edited the duplicate link to include a bunch of them

@YvetteColomb ya thats what i mean, if they are hungry. Not that they are missing vitamins/minerals and need to eat poop to try and fix it.

@Zaralynda cool
@RebeccaRVT yeh I know - and it can become a bad habit for poor pups that are brought up in that environment - it's certainly not "natural" in a healthy environment - it's a response to a poor environment
oh and @Zaralynda congrats on the gold badge, they're hard to get :)

@YvetteColomb thanks! I just got it a few days ago

@Zaralynda it's something that's sought after on Stack Overflow
btw I came 3rd in the moderator election on SO!

@YvetteColomb congrats! that's huge!

7:17 PM
@Zaralynda I was so happy with this result @MonicaCellio ^^
@Zaralynda it's massive - if they call up more mods - I'll be asked and it means I stand a pretty good chance of being elected in the next election - so happy
I just loved this

@YvetteColomb <3
sorry got distracted with hacker news
the dude who stopped wannacry got arrested

wow
kinda not surprising really
that he would have skills as a hacker

7:32 PM
@YvetteColomb that community is pretty distrustful of gov (esp US gov) and it's a thing that happened a few years ago and .... folks are real unhappy

@Zaralynda I can understand why
anyway I need to pop off - it's been great to see you :)

@YvetteColomb have a greatday!

Q: Why is my 4 year old feral rescue pooping on the living room area rug every night?

SUNSETBELLAMy feral cat that is is now 4 yrs old (I rescued him when he was around 1 year old!)started pooping on my living room area rug. He never did that before. He seems perfectly healthy with no signs of being ill. I have tried changing places where I put his liter box, tried different liters. I had an...

I just feel like SE's question and answer format isn't a good format for troubleshooting litter box problems, and every way of addressing it feels like a kludge

This is our hand out we give to clients who have cats with urinary issues, this is given after an exam to make sure it's nothing critical

Q: "Most Genes" and "Less Genes"

JadeI want to get a snake but I can't figure out why it matters if the snake has more or less genes? Q: Is this statement about pets and their food accurate?

JackCJR"...pet parents asking if [brand omitted] for is causing any of the following: (a) bloody diarrhea, (b) vomiting, (c) elevated liver enzymes or (d) pancreatitis. The answer is “No.” Veterinarians frequently see these conditions in pets and the causes for each syndrome are almost always unrelated ...

If eggs are fed with the shell on, they are a nearly complete food source for dogs.
