Someone got mad at me the other day because my answer to a question was different from his, and I politely asked him to cite a source. One of the moderators calmed him down. I can't imagine getting upset because someone makes a constructive suggestion! :-)

Yes, I've also noticed that there are few nitpickers. That's why the thing the other day involving someone else really surprised me. I did not take the bait. Why bother when there are so many other things to get one's knickers in a twist about.
I don't really care about reputation either, but there is one thing I do like: it gives you access to more things to do on the site. Although I think that after 3,000, there are diminishing returns.
ESL students have trouble understanding the logic of sentences even starting with 'It is cold.' Or using 'it' as a pronoun to replace ideas in general. Usually they will start the sentence with 'That is interesting...'
For instance 'It is interesting that you selected that factor.'
Or
'It wasn't...
Yes, close to the beginning, and not when I got the "free" 100 points. I had been spending a ridiculous amount of time doing this, because I remember thinking, "Yahoo! Something new to do that isn't completely devoid of content and intellectual gymnastics!"
