A: 64-bit Java not working

TCoderFirst, you should run where java or java -version to make sure you are running what you think you are. If you aren't, get the path to the version folder of the java version you are trying to run and run this: C:\Users\YourName>C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\<folder with version\bin\java.exe <args> ...

No Way. You are confused. Look at the error he gets it is nothing to do with a path. And there's also no reason for you to be giving an example with a jar file either.

No. IF he is getting a 64-bit instance error, that means that the instance he is running does not support 64-bit. My answer is a way to specifically run an instance that does support 64-bit. And the -jar was just an example to show that it still functions the same.

If that's the case (and it may be), then his error is that he isn't running the one he installed. So what he should do is where java and verify that he is running the one he thinks he is running he isn't, then you should tell him that.

Ok, I'll add that to my answer.

where java (the where command is a windows command)

5:04 PM
Yep. But this only gives the javapath location?

and java -version (if you are a bit error prone then especially good to test out a thing first. Is quick to test)

No, I just tested this on my machine, and it gave me the x86 javapath exe and the regular javapath exe. Running java -version gives you java version info.

ah ok. I have a completely ancient java version.. that I installed to test something, and java version doesn't work and it needs java -version

I moved this to chat as it was getting to long

ok no problem

5:05 PM
cool. when I ran where java on my machine it gave me
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath\java.exe
C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath\java.exe

C:\Users\User>where java
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath\java.exe

C:\Users\User>java -version
java version "1.8.0_251"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_251-b08)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.251-b08, mixed mode)
C:\Users\User>java version
Error: Could not find or load main class version

C:\Users\User>
so for me I have to do java -version

same here
my keyboard didin't register the -

so why did you comment what you did and not correct that?
so use charmap
you not heard of charmap?

I meant when I typed it, I didn't press the key all the way

So make that correction to your "answer"
and press the key all the way

5:08 PM
I did

And you denied it in comment
"and java -version (if you are a bit error prone then especially good to test out a thing first. Is quick to test)" – barlop 7 mins ago

No, I just tested this on my machin......... - TCoder
You should have replied "Yes" not "No"

I was responding to the 'where java'

For the where, when I corrected you, you said "Yep"
so you agreed with my correction
but with the 'version' you replied "No", like you disagreed. When you should have replied "Yes"
'cos I was right and you knew I was right
The OP has entered
OP, can you try where java
is it what you installed?

let us know what it returns

and java -version

5:14 PM
also run 'echo %java_home% to see the running version
i've had them be different
