please put on your 😷 when you enter ;)

I'm not super scared or anything, but doing my last night of revelry (colleague's farewell party) before secluding myself (for some values of seclusion)

Oh man, and I was JUST about to ask if RPG.SE would be a good place to ask about Germ Games.

People are maintaining quite long distances which is nice

I should probably wash my keyboard more often after leaving chat.

Can I also post memes in here?
Or is this serious chat?

1:40 PM
😷

I dunno. I'd default to "memes in good taste are fine" and see where it goes.
But I very much intend to have serious chat too :)

1:54 PM
Currently, major sports organizations around the world are canceling/suspending seasons. All the major professional leagues in the US are suspended, colleges have cancelled championship events, and all other winter/spring sports are (currently) canceled.
If you haven't, I would encourage people to read the WHO and CDC (or local non US equivalent) to acquaint yourselves with the facts, current situation and current recommendations.

Because I trust our US task force on this soooo much.

@JohnP hello sir, some fitness related queries, can I ask here please?

...fitness related to corona?

@JohnP not related to coronavirus... or any room?

@goodguy5 Worldometer seems reputable

2:00 PM
This sitrep map looking like a plague inc game

@skullpatrol YAP Bro
Indian doctors recently found a way to cure for conv in 2 days using a combination of flu, malaria and HIV Medicine
2 italian couples recovered in 2 days till now.

@goodguy5 That's a separate discussion, but the CDC works under Dept of Health, which is apart from the main political forum. The Pandemic team that was released in 2018 was a separate group.

around 50% of CONV cases in India are italians.

oof. that death rate looking higher than advertised.

Though, I guess it doesn't account for undocumented cases.

2:02 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha mm, if you want to ask here probably not a bar, if you want to ask on fitness chat, I think I might ahve to unfreeze our main chat room.

I'm hoping we can get some really accurate mortality statistics by the end of the month.

@JohnP I don't know the main chatroom? My problems are related to stamina, soldier pain, yoga and flexiblity. I'm a Kung Fu Player and have some queries to ask about that.

@JohnP what do you think of Wilder's punching power at 230 lbs?

@goodguy5 I expect that it will be probably somewhere in the 3-5% range when all starts settling, which places it above "normal" flu, and below swine, MERS, SARS, etc.

2:05 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha That would be more suitable in Open Roda, the martial arts chat. That has semi regular activity from a few people.

@JohnP Huh, Fat, bodybuilding, stamina?

@AbhasKumarSinha yoga/flexibility/kung fu. I can open our chat, but the activity there is very sparse. Open Roda is at least somewhat active.

you don't follow boxing?

Tiger Style Kung Fu requires boxing too. (I dun follow conventional boxing)
I mainly stick with Wing Tsun.

2:08 PM
@skullpatrol rarely. Same reason I don't follow MMA much, in that I don't like a sport where the main goal is to cause a loss of consciousness due to impact. But this isn't really the venue to discuss, there are other chats more suitable.

It requires very less power and techniques designed to use power against the opponent.

pin^ please
:-)

thnx

:)
@JohnP So can you please come to Roda Room?

2:12 PM
@goodguy5 Also, if you look at the worldometer, death rate is ~ 3.2%. Swine flu was 4.3? 4.4? SARS and the 1918 flu were right around 10%.

@JohnP There are a lot of misreporting too... :(

@JohnP yea, I'm looking at that, and I'm somewhat comforted by that it gets lower as you get younger, unlike some of those others.

@goodguy5 Yes. It really is a slightly deadlier flu, that appears to hit elderly and previously compromised patients harder (i.e. asthma, COPD, obese, diabetes, etc).

I'm concerned about my obese, diabetic, COPD grandmother....

@goodguy5 Just focus on food and taking her for a walk, rest is easy.

2:16 PM
Don't live close enough for that.
Also, I've been slowly realizing for the past few days that basically all I do is touch my face.

can we talk about the corona connection to the stock market crash?

@goodguy5 Yeah, my parents are in their 80's, and my mom has asthma. They were supposed to come down this weekend from Colorado, and they turned around and went back home halfway, worried there might be travel bans.
And the realtor they were going to meet also canceled all their operations for the rest of the month.

oh no! Look out!

It's a random dude with a knife!
</s>

hello
lol
I've been super scared that past few days cause I've been coughing up bloody snot, and a few of the people where I work say the same.

2:33 PM
@RandomDudeWithAKnife Not all people who cough have coronavirus.
@RandomDudeWithAKnife Where you live/age?

@AbhasKumarSinha live/ around noble county age/ 28

@RandomDudeWithAKnife noble country? Which continent?

@AbhasKumarSinha Noble COUNTY (Indiana)

@RandomDudeWithAKnife India you mean?

USA

2:36 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha Indiana. US state.

@AbhasKumarSinha what Carcer said

Ok... Then, do you work in a factory?

@RandomDudeWithAKnife Bloody snot just means that somewhere in your lung you've irritated it enough to bleed. Not necessarily indicative of corona, but indicative that yes, something is wrong. I'd call into an urgent care and ask. They may want you to get tested to be on the safe side.

@AbhasKumarSinha to be fair, bloody snot is something you should worry about

My wife will get a nasty cough if her allergies act up enough, and gets that every once in a while (bloody sputum).

2:46 PM

@RandomDudeWithAKnife That sounds like a different problem.
I'm about to cry. My wife is making me go to the store.

I went to the store last night for a few "essentials".

It was a warzone

@skullpatrol That combination of HIV Drugs, has treated 7 patients in Jaipur Hospital : twitter.com/Tavysingh/status/1238446747942129664?s=20
^seems India found cure for CoNV

Doesn't necessarily mean cure.
Also, why are they treating coronavirus patients with HIV drugs?

3:01 PM
agree, They are now but 100% of the CONV patients in the hospital are now recovered.

Without any information, that sounds like reckless medicine.
"Hmm... you seem to be having a case of shingles, so we're starting you on some chemotherapy."

@Yuuki Combination of HIV, Malaria and Swine Flu drugs, it's a common practice among virologists to treat a new viral disease in case readymade medicine/vaccine for it is not available.

@Yuuki Because HIV drugs are antivirals. And China has much looser testing and medication laws than the US.

@Yuuki You may search the article explaining the logic behind those drugs to treat CONV...

@JohnP India, not China, but I suppose so.

3:04 PM
@Yuuki It was done on the recommendation of doctors at ground zero in China.

What article? You linked a tweet.

@Yuuki Let me search...

@Yuuki - Here's one infoblurb - natap.org/2020/newsUpdates/020420_02.htm

@AbhasKumarSinha NYPost - Here in the US, it's regarded as slightly better than a gossip supermarket tabloid.

3:07 PM
@JohnP okay... Here's the better one : medicaldialogues.in/state-news/rajasthan/…

Can someone find me some credible news on the 1.5 trillion dollar wallstreet situation?

I'm bad at googling and also trying to good information (compared to memes)

@AbhasKumarSinha The main message from that is "Don't do that again, we need a trial".

@JohnP Yep... Currently Indian Medical Association doesn't has any medicine specific for CONV, that treatment was just an experiment.
Those HIV medicines given to them are very very strong.

@goodguy5 now is a good time to learn :-)

They've clarified that they need 3 more months to get a vaccine
@goodguy5 Wall Street is not a professional media service, I guess....

3:12 PM
What I've been able to figure out so far, is that the fed is buying bonds (that it can sell later), so it's not "giving" money, strictly speaking.

Just 5 min before: *Controversy erupts over Delhi riots coverage.
MEA writes to its embassy in the US seeking deportation of the Wall Street Journal journalist levelling ‘anti-India behaviour’ charge.*

@goodguy5 The fed is offering short term, 500 billion in loans in three installments to banks to avoid them not having enough to lend regular people and businesses.

Thanks, team

3:27 PM
I just got a notification my kids will be off school for 5 weeks

@AbhasKumarSinha if you can understand that where you are discussing India, s internal matter be good!

@YuvrajSingh... actually chat was about Wall Street Journal :)

@AbhasKumarSinha then people will search what wall street has written, and then more fake news...
@AbhasKumarSinha I was planning to shift to my village if college authorities give holidays.

@YuvrajSingh... no one takes them seriously... (or atleast to those I''ve met)
@YuvrajSingh... iit campus is extremely safer than your village....

@AbhasKumarSinha that, s wrong, totally wrong not about iit it is about the village.
We local people use to walk many miles a day.

3:31 PM
@YuvrajSingh... village is safer? how?

@AbhasKumarSinha I never had any smoothie or pizza burger, mein Gaon ka ghee chach dhudh kha kar bada Hua hun.
With no pollution.
No foreginers

@YuvrajSingh... hahaha... ok :)

@AbhasKumarSinha yes.
@AbhasKumarSinha what there is orrisa, I haven't saw any news?

Humanity will likely servive COVID-19, humans are fairly smart, and we have survived many devastating plagues over the many years humans have existed.

@RandomDudeWithAKnife Ouch. Two here, starting today. Where're you? (Northeast US, here.)
Oh, Noble County.

3:48 PM
as a response to whoever asked me where I worked, I am a docter

Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now looks pretty reputable (sources are all Science and Johns Hopkins and JAMA and the like), and everything he's saying is consistent with all the CDC/NIH testimony I heard and all the mathematics I know. But I have no idea who Tomas Pueyo is and can't find much about him. Anyone know what his deal is?

@YuvrajSingh... 0 cases here.

@RandomDudeWithAKnife Yes, humanity will survive. I have no doubt of that. I actually have no doubt that I will survive: I'm middle-aged in good health in a sparsely-populated but well-off area, blah blah blah....
Personally, I'm wondering if my industry will survive.
(Longer-term: say, the ten-year window.)

@nitsua60 gaming industry? It'll get a boost

@AbhasKumarSinha Boarding schools.

3:54 PM
@nitsua60 You teach in boarding schools?

A lot of our revenue comes from international students. And it's not unthinkable that there could be a sever reduction in that income stream starting pretty soon.
@AbhasKumarSinha Yup.

@RandomDudeWithAKnife Humans are also fairly stupid. The GOP is currently blocking a coronavirus funding bill in order to insert an abortion defunding amendment.

@nitsua60 Don't worry, around world's 70% economies have been interrupted, also, there are great chances of recovery after 6 months.

@AbhasKumarSinha And most of the rest of our revenue comes from pretty well-off domestic sources. Who've just seen 20% reductions in their net worth.
We survived 2008, but it wasn't easy. And this looks like it could very easily basically be two hits like that.
@AbhasKumarSinha I don't understand why the thought of 70% of the world's economies being interrupted would lead me to not worry. We sell a luxury good: brick-and-ivy education for kids who have very good options near their homes.

@nitsua60 Don't worry, it's already 10 years, technology and medicine has vastly changed, you'll notice things gradually coming back to place and soon boost in profits. It's like slingshot mechanism.

3:58 PM
the crash of 1987 started the recession

@nitsua60 What I was trying to say was that everyone is worried, and it's natural that this is a global phenomenon, but that's how that works, our learning from sufferings is more important than sufferings itself.

Okay, I don't think you're hearing me. Thank you for trying to uplift me, I'm sure it's well-intentioned.
@AbhasKumarSinha May I be happy and free from suffering, may those I meet be happy and free from suffering, may all mankind be happy and free from suffering... something like that?

@nitsua60 See if I hear you, we are are not going to find a way to stop and cure conv, the best thing you can do now is to hear and trust me. There is something you've to trust, destiny, karma or whatever!

on an unrelated note, mosquitos hate the smell of garlic.

@nitsua60 See sufferings can be different for different people. so, I'm referring Coronavirus using suffering as conv is regarded as a more negative word by most of the people on internet.
@RandomDudeWithAKnife My socks works better XD :P :)
@skullpatrol well said :)

4:02 PM
:)

@nitsua60 The situtation is more like this : twitter.com/iatemuggles/status/1238008076353110017?s=20

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times-" Right now, it is indeed the worst the worst of times.

There is always a spring followed by Winter.

@AbhasKumarSinha and a summer followed by that :)

rain followed by that :)

4:09 PM
Unfortunately, after falls comes, there must be another winter.
yes, and rain.

If there's only spring or summer then things would tend to become more boring :P

Personally, I love the rain, without it I would have to purchase * shudder * bottled water
lol
brb

4:21 PM
back
what do you get when you mix an archer and a priest?

idk what

a crossbow

dang it

4:37 PM
These upcoming 3-4 months can be very productive.

4:51 PM

5:06 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha what are the reasons behind that ?

@Educ No schools, collages, work, safe at home, there are several skills which just need these conditions as side requirements.

@AbhasKumarSinha Yeah, for some people, if you give them those conditions, they will be no productive. But personally, for me, I like those conditions because I feel I'm a free learner.

@Educ Focus on only those skills which you can value throughout your life. For me, music is just 3 month investment, but this skill is worth forever, for example you can use music to calm others.

@AbhasKumarSinha I want to invest this period in studying some new concepts in mathematics and trying to understand old ones deeply. And it's time to be innovative.

If you feel you can do those much better in following 3 months then any other, then it's certainly good.

5:17 PM
of course I need more than that time but at least 3 months is good than nothing

Is it weird that one of my kids are homescholled and one isn't

ages?
and is there a needs reason?
It's slightly odd on the surface, but it's one of those things that feels like "there's a good reason for it"

5:56 PM
they are twins, and there is no special needs reason

Did one of them WANT to be schooled at home/school ?
If it's just a whim, then it's a be odd

6:14 PM
back
and there is really no reason for it, but its tradition in my neanderthal clan that we choose where we are schooled

@goodguy5 what do you get when you mix an archer and a butcher?

6:34 PM
Also to be aware of - There are hoax websites that install malware already cropping up. Make sure you are linking to reputable sites for your information.
FSOs: see below and attached.
Alert Synopsis:

A malicious website pretending to be the live map for Coronavirus COVID-19
Global Cases by Johns Hopkins University is circulating on the internet
waiting for unwitting internet users to visit the website
(corona-virus-map[dot]com). Visiting the website infects the user with the
AZORult trojan, an information stealing program which can exfiltrate a
variety of sensitive data. It is likely being spread via infected email
attachments, malicious online advertisements, and social engineering.

It's important to retain your sense of humor in these times:

@Yuuki idk

@goodguy5 a bull's eye

@Yuuki looooool
dang it!!!!!!
What do you get when you have a scared archer?

@goodguy5 archer doesn't get scared, he gets drunk

6:45 PM
A quiver

@nitsua60 A data scientist originally shared this with me saying it was really good

@Mithrandir24601 Ty.

7:03 PM
Hello. :)

8:01 PM
to be addressed as Supreme Leader henceforth ;)

3 hours later…
11:19 PM
Would it be a bad idea to run D&D while my school is shutdown for a month?

11:36 PM
> Cocktail of the day: The Quarantini - it's just a regular martini but you drink it alone in your house.

1 message moved from RPG General Chat
I love the joke and am sharing it with friends!
But yeah, if the purpose of a dedicated chat is to let people decide how much they want their RPG.SE experience to intersect with discussion of the pandemic, we need to keep even the most light-hearted discussion of the pandemic in the dedicated chat.

Interesting note: All the cancellations and closures due to COVID-19 mean "Important Notice" is trending on Twitter today.

FESTPAC was moved to June 2021! Which, yes, that makes a lot of sense, even on non-pandemic years it exposes a lot of people from places with minimal health facilities and relatively isolated disease spaces, to a lot of exciting new ways to get sick.
