Do you know if ISA memory extension cards generally work with 386-class computers?
I want to upgrade my 386 freebsd box from 8 MB to 10 MB using such a card

It works up to 16MB, but it is considerably slower than on-board memory.
If your box uses stanard 30-pin SIMMs, I reccomend tossing the 8 1MB SIMMs and replacing them by 4 4MB SIMMs to get to 16MB. AT memory cards are rare, 4MB SIMMs should be easy to get. And you get 16MB instead of just 10MB in that machine.
You can not use an 8-bit EMS card, only 16-bit extended memory cards (or extended memory/EMS combo cards in "extended memory mode") will serve your purpose.

yeah
I did try an extended memory card today and it worked (another one seemed to have problems coping with the high bus speed)
not sure if this chipset supports 4 MB SIMMs
