Does the joke about shoe polish count as a multi-lingual pun?
There are three tins of shoe polish on the shelf, which one is the Musketeer?
I'll leave a little cogitation space while I offer another potential multi-lingual pun,
A man goes into a cake shop and points to a confection in a cabinet and asks 'Is that a doughnut or a meringue?' The Glaswegian shop keeper replies 'naw, yer right enough.'
You ready for the punchline to the first one?
'The Dark Tan Yin'
Do I hear sounds of confusion? 'Yin' is Scots for 'one', (though spelling it that way is a more recent development, traditionally spelt 'ane' but both pronounced 'yin') So the pun is on the name D'Artagnan.
The Doughnut one relies on hearing 'a meringue' as 'am ah wrang'.
Here endeth the Scottishness.

Q: Why is the 1820 Indicator version of La Belle Dame Sans Merci seen as more "politically correct"?

Matt ThrowerIn his textbook Theory of Literature, Paul Fry writes at length about Jerome McGann's critique of Keats. As part of this he has this to say about the comparison between the 1819/1848 and the 1820 version of La Belle Dame Sans Merci: McGann’s argument is that the 1820 version is better because it...

Q: Why I found the Lord of the Rings quite hard to read as a non-native speaker?

EthanI am reading the Lord of the rings. But as a non-native speaker, I found it particularly hard to visualize in my head the settings of the scenes and also the landscapes established by the author. Has anyone else encountered the same issue?
