Q: The great Minecraft tag family cleanup!

Fabian RölingIt was discussed recently that the minecraft tag family is potentially up to 6 years behind the actual reality and a lot of them are used incorrectly all the time, not only because they are so outdated. I am trying to fix multiple of these problems with this proposal, which I had previously sugge...

@Wipqozn Not too many tags, they are in fact required: meta.stackexchange.com/a/70718/353011 Edit: I added those two back and since minecraft was the only non-mandatory one, I had to remove that one. This topic is so complex that the mininum amount of tags is equal to the maximum amount of tags. Luckily we don't need a proper burnination as well, otherwise it would be impossible to add all required tags. Also, featuring apparently didn't really work, because there are already 3 featured meta posts, two on the main meta site.

You probably already realized this, but the "too many tags" was just because of the tag limit.
I changed around the formatting to make it both easier to read, and easier to cross tags off once they've been handled. I also deleted the synonyms since the mod tools can handle all of that as part of the merger process. EDIT and after verifying things in the back end 30 seconds after that last comment, I've merged renames into the merger section, since they're essentially just mergers from the mod tools POV.
I've taken care of all the tag mergers / renames except for minecraftminecraft-java-edition. Just want to be extra careful with that one, so waiting on it for now.
The requested synonyms have been deleted as well.

You messed up the usage of tag names in this answer quite a bit by reordering things. I intentionally put the renames at the beginning and then I used the new names in the rest of the post. Now there's a mix of old and new tag names everywhere.
Have you read the older post? Some of the things you did go against the intent of that. And this post was very fine-tuned to contain exactly the tasks required, you did quite a few things different, like creating a synonym minecraft-console for minecraft-legacy-console, for which I explicitly stated that it should NOT happen (and people seemed to have agreed with that). Some of the other synonyms you have created are also questionable, like mc-equivalent-exchange. How is that one useful? And did you check the tag wiki of minecraft-pocket-edition and …
minecraft-windows-10 for whether they contained information that should be copied over to minecraft-bedrock-edition? The newest archive I've found for the first is from 2017: web.archive.org/web/20171108101140/https://… and the newest archive of the second from 2015: web.archive.org/web/20150912173508/https://… tag synonym minecraft-windows-10 for minecraft-bedrock-edition is harmful, because people also play Java edition on Windows 10 …
… and could use the synonym wrongly. I saw in your profile that you barely ever post or answer Minecraft questions, can you please leave the cleanup to people who know these tags and their usage? And I wrote in my post that I would start after nobody objects after WEEKS and now you have already gone along with your own (mis-)interpretation of some of the most important changes after not even one day! Please look at the new edit I just made, there is a lot of important new information.

I apologize if I misunderstood the intent of this post. I was under the impression that the community was already in agreement on this, so I didn't see the need to wait any longer for additional community consensus. As for the mistakes made, I'll look into correcting them, but some information may be lost (without poking the CMs, anyways).
As for the synonyms you didn't want created, I created them anyways because users can't actually see anything but the "master" tag. All it does is making searching easier, really. For example, trying add minecraft-snapshot to a question... it won't autocomplete or show up.

RE: tag wiki info - if any is 'lost' it can be retrieved from a mod-only 'orphaned wiki' page. It's not the most usable page (basically a straight text dump of every orphaned wiki without search or pagination), but it's there if we need it. @FabianRöling - let's take your lead on this: let us know which tag wikis need saving and we'll do our best
