In the course of discussing the radish and olive sugya tonight the question was raised: Why wouldn’t we make a האדמה on everything in this situation? We find that האדמה works on העץ foods בדיעבד, so why don’t we do that here to minimize Berachos made?

Seemingly it doesn’t suggest that because we prefer making the proper Berachos to minimizing them. Since there is an alternative that works, why isn’t this an issue of ברכה שאינה צריכה לגופה?

@Alex Seemingly it is, but he just presumes that it doesn’t work here, without explaining why.

@DonielF One possibility is that the lashon of the Mishnah implie דיעבד אין לכתחלה לא (cf. 14a-b).

Another possibility is something like the initial understanding of R. Yosi’s כל המשנה on 40b.
