Q: The bridge index and crookedness of a knot

FredyI am reading Dale Rolfsen's book KNOTS AND LINKS, at page 115, I can't figure out why the crookedness of a knot equals its bridge index. Please give me some hints or any references available, much thanks!

@MartinSleziak I see that YCor has removed geometry and replaced gn.general-topology by gt.geometric-topology. (Which seems to be a more suitable top-level tag for knot theory.) mathoverflow.net/posts/330643/revisions
