@MartinSleziak: Lol hello odd to see you pop in just after me.

It is among my favorite rooms.
Since I saw recent activity here and I saw a familiar face (familiar gravatar) I looked whether this is something I can help with.

Ah. I was just testing what shows up when I paste a link to a comic. You see, somehow when people paste xkcd links the comic shows up. I think it must be implemented separately by the chat functionality.
It would explain why other comic feeds don't show up as pictures.

I think I recall seeing somewhere feed with this and it was oneboxed.

@MartinSleziak SBA has an xkcd feed, and it shows up. Other comics don't seem to show up.

A: Which links and sites are handled specially in chat?

Juha SyrjäläThe current list of integrated (we call this onebox, or oneboxing, ala search engines) sites is: Stack Exchange sites: Questions / Answers / Users / Comments Stack Exchange Chat: Messages / Rooms / Bookmarked conversations Area 51 proposals Posts from the Stack Overflow blog and the Server Faul...

I see. So it probably was xkcd.

@MartinSleziak Aha thanks it makes total sense now.

Interestingly, I do not see xkcd listed among onboxed content in the tag-info on meta.SE or faq in chat.
But the post by Loong list more stuff, including xkcd.

@MartinSleziak I see. Well chasing the links from what you provided led me to an interesting question in the HSM chat-room that you linked hahaha..

Q: The origin of sets?

François G. DoraisThe history of set theory from Cantor to modern times is well documented. However, the origin of the idea of sets is not so clear. A few years ago, I taught a set theory course and I did some digging to find the earliest definition of sets. My notes are a little scattered but it appears that the ...

Did Loong just pop in here too?

The hsm chat is basically dead, but I do not want the room to get frozen. If I have some interesting link to post there, I post it there. Instead of simply posting a dummy message with not content, just for the sake of prevent freezing.

I see. Maybe there are just too few users interested in HSM.

8:05 AM
In fact, I have suggested on hsm.meta that this could be done automatically: Feeds for suitable questions from other sites in chat?
Anyway, you came here basically to see whether phdcomics is oneboxed. It's resoved and we also got a very useful link from Loong: Which links and sites are handled specially in chat?
So probably we can move on to other stuff we have to do. :-)

@MartinSleziak I recall seeing someone somewhere say something like there is a way to make a feed that links to interesting posts from the site.
If so, could that be an option so you don't have to do it all by yourself?

Well, I have suggested feeds for specific tags. But this has to be done by a RO or a moderator.

I see okay.

But I am not sure what this "interesting" feed you mention is.

@MartinSleziak I saw it in the Physics chat-room, I believe. Unless it's simply feeding all the posts.

8:09 AM
I don't think interesting tab has it's own feed.
That room has several feeds.
Most of them are live-ticker feeds.
The only feed which I see posted as messages is feed for all questions from their meta.

@MartinSleziak I see, and live-ticker feeds won't help to keep the room unfrozen, right?

In general, feeds do not keep link unfrozen.

Oh!

Post by feeds do not count as posts by chat users, so they do not keep room unfrozen. Post by bots count as regular posts, so theoretically they could prevent freezing. (Unless there is big gap between the two posts.)

Okay I see.

@MartinSleziak Okay thanks! I guess I should go back to my work now. =)

BTW since this started as a question about links to comics, of course you can post a picture.
However, I am not sure whether in chat there is a way to make the picture "clickable". (So that clicking on the picture leads the user to the website with the comic.)

@MartinSleziak I see. I tried it before, but the inline syntax that works for question/answer posts doesn't work in chat.
And you must have been quick to grab my chat message before I deleted it!

So perhaps as a replacement I could see posting image in one message and link in another message:

@MartinSleziak I guess so, but no feed to do that automatically haha..

8:19 AM
@user21820 Should I pretend that it's just an accident that I used the same one?

@MartinSleziak It's impossible. There are thousands of comics out there and this isn't the most recent one for that comic.
=D

Yes, I saw the message before it is deleted. (And, of course, moderators and room owners can also look at deleted messages, but I do not have RO privileges in this room.)
I do not know anything about programming bot for Stack Exchange chat rooms. But I saw various stuff posted by bots, probably they can do quite complex things.

Yea. When I actually have nothing to do I might think about that.
=)

Ok, I think we exhausted both us and the topic. See you later!

See you!
