@Christopher Sure, email works. I won't use it to crack your answer.
Feb 9, 2018 00:37
@Christopher I'm not sure I understand. If you tell me here, will everybody be able to crack it or just me?
Jul 19, 2017 03:30
Sweet, that means I can make my crack pretty.

@DJMcMayhem Eh, you didn't have to delete your answer. You were the first to crack it.
Mar 3, 2017 03:15
Just like cops'n'robbers: you must post your crack after n days to claim the win.
Feb 24, 2017 19:58
In any case, I think my crack makes your cop valid, even if the intended solution didn't work.
Feb 24, 2017 19:54
Nooo! My crack!

I've deleted my crack for now. Let me know what you decide.

@AdmBorkBork The shortest uncracked A is the winner, so augmenting the length can make the answer more competitive if it makes it more difficult to crack.
Jan 10, 2017 02:54
@ETHproductions Yeah, I really like that one. That weird analogy was the only thing that allowed me to crack the problem, and I think it makes it a good candidate for both categories.

Yes, I saw. I took the time to crack one of the anagram because I knew it could be done in Python 3, but I haven't even looked at the others.

@ConorO'Brien Timeouts are the last resort with which moderators can attempt to keep a room under control. You don't place clown masks on the riot police, and you don't crack jokes in a timeout message.

This site always manages to crack me up.
Aug 22, 2016 00:22
@RohanJhunjhunwala Strongly advising means squat. If the score or the validity of a crack depends on it, it must be clarified. The meta consensus is that every challenge has to define it itself.
Aug 22, 2016 00:18
@RohanJhunjhunwala But if two "things" are counted as the same language, can I crack variant A with variant B?
Aug 22, 2016 00:15
@RohanJhunjhunwala They must not be derived from another language (brainfuck versus Alphfuck) is a bit unclear. Does that mean I can crack a brainfuck answer with Sesos? Probably not...
Aug 20, 2016 04:01
Btw, I may have to steal your crack. ;) Can't find any improvements.

A: Can you outgolf me? (Cops section)

DennisM, 9 bytes, score 0.6667 (6 / 9) r©0+’Ac®Ḅ A tad cheaty since M and Jelly are quite similar, but allowed by the rules. @miles' crack to my Jelly answer doesn't work in M; it lacks the œċ atom. This calculates sequence A119259. Try it online!

A: Can you outgolf me? (Cops section)

DennisM, 10 bytes, score 0.6 (6 / 10) [cracked] R‘ạḤc’*@RP A tad cheaty since M and Jelly are quite similar, but allowed by the rules. This version is based on @LeakyNun's crack to my Jelly answer. This calculates sequence A068943. Try it online! Intended solution The following code works in M/Je...

Aug 7, 2016 07:05
What are you trying to prevent? Leaky Nun found a 10 byte crack to my 11 byte submission, but I can go lower. What harm would come from posting a shorter Jelly answer so the robbers could try again to outgolf me?
Aug 7, 2016 06:44
No, a crack is a crack.
Mar 10, 2016 20:23
@Sherlock9 In code golf, unless you're going for FGITW in a trivial challenge, time is usually not an issue. In cops and robbers, specifically in the robbers' challenge, you have to be the first one to post a crack or it doesn't count. More than once, I cracked a solution, just to find another answer pop up while I wrote mine. Also, there's a deadline, which lead to this.

32 bytes of TI-BASIC? That should be impossible to crack...
Oct 18, 2015 02:13
@isaacg I had a feeling you would crack that one. :P Btw, ljyG finishes in under 50 seconds on my machine, while lsyG is very slow. Even lsy<G18 takes over 6 minutes. What would be the reason for that?
Oct 17, 2015 04:00
@RetoKoradi Do you have MATLAB as well by any chance? (I'm pretty sure I got the correct crack though.)
Oct 17, 2015 03:43
Oh well. I won't crack that cop, I guess.
Aug 28, 2015 04:33
1. I'm browsing esolangs to crack answers. 2. I find a language I really like and post a new answer.
Aug 26, 2015 22:08
@BetaDecay I'm not sure if I'll keep trying to crack submissions. nimi's pretty much wore me out and I'm pretty PO'd that I tried the correct language but failed to append a newline...
Aug 26, 2015 18:54
I want to kick myself! I've spent hours trying to crack nimi's answer, searched the entire internet for a working compiler/interpreter, and it turned out to be bc.
Aug 25, 2015 03:34
Seriously though, I've been trying like crazy to crack some of the submissions.
Aug 24, 2015 14:40
Hrmpf, I found a crack for a cop answer, but the website that hosted the interpreter disappeared. :/
Aug 24, 2015 14:17
Crack those, but leave the 27 alone. :P
Aug 24, 2015 14:14
@aditsu You should totally drop that and crack Sp3000's.
Aug 23, 2015 03:38
Well, nimi already figured out Peter's (but can't post) and somebody has to crack yours...
Aug 21, 2015 02:27
I'm still trying to crack your 3 byte answer, but I had no luck so far. My best guess is a H9Q++ / Brainfuck mashup, but I can't find it.
Aug 21, 2015 02:19
I've already said too much. If I'm not allowed to crack it, I should give others the opportunity.
Aug 21, 2015 02:17
I know that I have to specify the correct version number for the crack to count. I'm just not sure if omitting it makes the first guess wrong.
Aug 21, 2015 02:09
Well, Jimmy's Jimmy. I fully expected him to crack it.
Aug 19, 2015 16:38
@AlexA. I was expecting you to crack this one:
Aug 19, 2015 15:39
I suppose. Oh, well, the second crack I get for free then. ;)
Aug 18, 2015 15:36
@Sp3000 Could you crack that 3 byte answer?
Aug 17, 2015 17:20
@MartinBüttner OK, thanks. What about different versions of the same language? For example, would the FORTRAN crack be valid without specifying 77? Could I write something that works only in Ruby 1.9?
Aug 16, 2015 16:45
@BetaDecay I think you should close your robbers' challenge 3 days after the cops' challenge. Otherwise, there's no incentive to crack the last valid submission.
Aug 16, 2015 05:54
There's a 5 byte APL answer I haven't been able to crack yet. I hope it's short enough to eventually get lucky.
Aug 11, 2015 16:49
I like the way I handled this for my CnR: If a cop submission relies on implementation-defined or undefined behavior, you only have to find a crack that works (verifiably) on your machine.
