@MichaelClark indeed. If anything we're too aggressive on closing something that doesn't seem to fit on the surface, but has a portion of the question that is a good fit that is hiding underneath. More aggressive closing is not generally something the site needs very often from what I've seen.
I just thought of a question to ask potential mods (current mods can chime in too, if you want): what's your opinion on enabling MathJax for Photo.SE? meta discussion: photo.meta.stackexchange.com/q/4770/11924
Of course, I understand there is additional work to make up for that (dealing with flagging, etc.). But in your experience, does it seem like you've taken your "voice" out of the day-to-day actions and "guidance" of the site, to some degree?
Question to any current / former mods (including on other SE's): related to the diamond status and "power", are you aware of any effort by SE to possibly de-escalate the moderation powers, or perhaps turn the mod powers into "sudo" powers? That is, because mod votes to close are immediately binding, it seems being a mod has a natural pressure to actually not participate as much in the day-to-day community guidance that occurs via close voting.
