Google wrote their own parser to create single tile packages from ESA's multi-tile .SAFE packages. Unfortunately it seems they also decided to change the metadata - which is a real bummer. I suspect the ingestion was done by the EarthEngine team, maybe they can help you out in this regard: groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/google-earth-engine-developers
