none of what's been described so far strikes me as an inconsistency within the new canon, only between old EU and new canon (unless you're all talking about a prequel novel or something)
Could it be that the discrepancies are due to retcon? Maybe. It could also just be that binding together a massive universe such as Star Wars without angering it's rabid fanbase is a very difficult task and they did their best.
that wasn't about transferring the information, that was about getting a message through the shield so the fleet above would know they had to destroy the shield somehow
