Q: Tag Cleanup For Graduation

DomWe all know the site is graduating soon and one nice thing to do before we are fully graduated is to clean up the tags on the main site. We have almost 300 tags and tags are very important to organizing questions asked and making sure people who are interested in a topic can find questions and an...

@Dom Sounds like a brilliant idea. Best way is to create a meta post that everyone can add an post to with tags they think need cleaning (dupes, mistakes, unneeded, blacklisting etc) and high rep folks and mods can then get quick agreement on them and clean them up
Oct 2, 2014 14:01
@MeaningfulUsername Yes - well over 80% of all hits are from google. I think search engine hit percentages is one of the criteria used to measure a site's success
Sep 24, 2014 03:07
Open question for whoever sees this: now that graduation is planned, should we re-run the site rename poll? I think we should, as the original question was started just after we entered beta, and the second place answer was created almost three years later. Also, the current users are probably different from who they were three years ago.

@Meaningful, @Shev, @Dom etc - check that out ^

Wait, 7.6 QPD?
Sep 5, 2014 18:26
@Dom - How about a unicorn painted guitar? ;)

Just seen this question: music.stackexchange.com/q/23362/9198 Just wondered whether the book 'How to sing at night without annoying my neighbours' by Edna Bucket was still in print...

@ValentinGrégoire I don't know the mixcraft. I'm a guitarist - and I only really know the Korg products because I built a Mini-Kaoss pad into one of my guitars (yes - I went to see Muse and was impressed...)

@RoryAlsop, I totally understand that the question is not well presented, and that it looks more like I am looking for buying advice. In a way I must admit I really am looking for that. I just couldn't find anything on my own so I posted my question here in high hopes :).
Aug 19, 2014 20:56
To some extent, I agree. But even in the absence of "actual decisions", we do usually tease-out the essential issues. Like when Johnsrude was **" ** spamming **" **. We muddled through. :)

(In the case of the Monotron, a semitone shift is really just a slight finger twist, no more than the motion you need for vibrato on cello or guitar.)

We are now 1200 days in beta.
Aug 9, 2014 14:14
returns dramatically
Aug 9, 2014 14:06
hah, it was funny because the example pages didn't use variables so I didn't know they existed, and tried to use anchor codes in the URL instead. xD

Playing the bass is especially helpful because of its role in harmony, and because of the way patterns work out on the fretboard.

There are four questions with eleven votes. If anyone has voted on them, you can remove a vote to leave them at ten and use that vote on one of the sub-ten ones

For anyone who mentioned by me and luser droog (I hope you read this), those message just me and luserdroog having fun. Ignore it if you don't care :D

In other news - I have been comparing our stats with various other sites in beta, and we are in a very good place right now. If there is a queue for graduation, we must be pretty close to the front, based on our statistics and growth curve.

@Dom Done :-)
Jun 2, 2014 15:56
@ReinaldyRafli I think everyone on SD is confused too. I am for sure. I've been away for a couple of weeks so I haven't been able to participate on meta but I'll bring it up.
Jun 2, 2014 14:33
It is related in that we will be able to migrate a lot of questions instead of closing them.
Jun 2, 2014 14:27
@Dom I would hope so. It means you can have the two sites almost acting as a cohesive pair - fan questions go one way, musician questions the other way. Probably improve our membership retention and get a range of questions we may otherwise miss
May 29, 2014 22:05
Although I'd be a little concerned that the other site might end up as Shazam for Lazy People
May 29, 2014 16:50
I don't think so :-)
May 26, 2014 19:38
@RoryAlsop So, did Sound.SE re-focus themselves on a stricter definition of Sound Design? What is to come of all the audio production questions that were merged with it?
May 22, 2014 16:53
Not even unicorn preservative can keep it that long
May 22, 2014 13:01
@aldy505 Stack Exchange pizza is made from the finest quality freehand circles and unicorn sparkles. Jon Skeet autographs each one in jquery, and they are then shipped in six to eight weeks. Void where prohibited. Oy.

@NReilingh Besides that, I think in general we need a stronger community. If the community is strong and united I think it will be clear the site should get out of beta.
Dom
May 17, 2014 01:53
@NReilingh In reference to your answer yesterday on the jTab suggesting you said "It sucks, but the learning curve of our code blocks for new users is not the thing that's keeping us from graduating.". Can you give us some insight on what is keeping us from graduating? I have an idea, but I'm sure you have much better understanding of the topic then I do.

^ Typo it should 27 more questions with a vote of 10 instead of 27 more questions.
Dom
May 13, 2014 12:49
To anyone who is interested the Music Fan SE proposal has been gaining a lot of traction recently. It currently needs 27 more questions to move on to the committed phase. I personally think it will be a good sister site to this one if it makes it to beta. area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/61574/…

@RoryAlsop Hopefully one day this site will be bursting with theory knowledge.

I just passed Dr. Mayhem and I'm the third-highest-ranking user on Musical Practice & Performance. I have no idea how that happened! Probably all that free time from long-term unemployment. I need to get me a job. Maybe Musical Practice & Performance is telling me it's time to become a music professor.

Q: Community Goal: 5 QPD by end of the year

LukeWe're below 2 QPD. I don't want to see this site closed. My goal is to raise the QPD stat to 5 by Dec 31, 2012. When this site first got out of Private Beta, everyone involved got an email saying : Tell all your friends, blog about it, tweet about it, and write the URL (http://history.stackex...

Hi music chat! I updated this meta post with the feedback from the team about your evaluation:
Jun 26, 2012 12:59
Although I strongly agree with you that, more than those other tags, this does often require expert knowledge (or at least a lot of experience).
Jun 25, 2012 14:16
@MatthewRead Just curious what your thoughts are on questions like this. Is that on topic?

I wanted to give you a quick look at the new Stack Exchange Beta theme. Yes, we are retiring the familiar “Sketchy” theme and rolling out a more-polished and finished design for the beta sites.

Raise the curtain, cue the trumpet fanfare…

Alas, poor Sketchy…

Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be rolling out the new Stack Exchange Beta theme to all the sites still in beta.

At first glance, the new beta theme looks like an unembellished version of any graduated site: Finished, but without any particular “beta” theme, per se. But that’s sort of the point. …

We have a lot of Q&A sites in the Stack Exchange network now. 84 at the current moment. That’s … a lot of Q&A sites. But most people* don’t find us by browsing the site directory; they find us by encountering a Stack Exchange page in their web search results.

So that may lead you to wonder: what are the most freqently found questions on a given Stack Exchange Q&A site? In other words, the “Greatest Hits” of that particular topic.

(Trivia: did you know that the Eagles’ Greatest Hits doesn’t include their most famous song?) …
