and if you ran for moderator without reading any of the information about the process, you probably get what you deserve

basically: as a moderator, I would enforce the policy that chatty/non-constructive comments have to go.

I guess we got our primary

I like how the candidate with the fewest primary votes has since become a mod

Above all, the most important thing about a primary is that it makes the awfully long election period much more exciting by splitting it into two periods with varied voting mechanics. I think you all underestimate how boring it is to sit there for 8 days and wait for something to happen. Two times 4 days with a milestone between is way more exciting! ;-)

I'd want a primary if we suddenly got 5 more candidates. But just barely getting past the line so one person gets culled is pretty pointless.

There's another angle which is that maybe the community would be more invested in helping with the tag cleanup if there was a diamond next to your name. :3

i would favor science over economics until we developed nuclear weapons with which to nuke tags from orbit.

I get this nagging feeling that Shog9 is not a fan of spoilers.

@SS-3 there's no facility for moving election nomination comments to chat (not that they'd make a lot of sense without context anyway). If you wanted them in chat, you could've posted them here to start with.

And I'm surprised it has come up, but it apparently has, so I have to say this: DO NOT NOMINATE ME. I would make a terrible mod. I will not accept a nomination. Just because I'm here a lot doesn't mean I would be a competent mod.

you have a comic?

Feb 2, 2016 20:32
I didn't know. Probably because I don't care much about chat stars.
Feb 2, 2016 20:03
Winners are Null and rand al'thor.
Feb 2, 2016 20:00
I should have done more.
Feb 2, 2016 17:42
@randal'thor The opposite of bottom?
Feb 1, 2016 23:48
Thankfully, you don't need to use your own blood to sign it.
Feb 1, 2016 23:42
Moddery.....sounds vaguely illegal.
Feb 1, 2016 23:40
One more day. Another day another destiny. This never ending road to moddery.
Feb 1, 2016 23:31
According to SEDE, 4,215 that have > 150.
Feb 1, 2016 23:30
@MikeEdenfield Well, you do get a badge for visiting the page.
Feb 1, 2016 23:29
There are 3185 users with 200+ rep

Poor predictable Bart, always chooses rock. - Good old rock. Nothing beats that!
Feb 1, 2016 01:27
450 voters
Jan 31, 2016 23:47
Can noobs vote for mods?

Of course, our use of this information is bound by the Moderator Agreement, however... even if it were enforced by court orders, if someone decided to flout it, you can't really unpublish it.
Jan 30, 2016 22:19
i think they're terrible questions in general and a bad fit for the site, so I always felt bad judging individual ones.
Jan 29, 2016 21:11
what if you did those things without first announcing it in a chatroom where Shog9 is watching?
Jan 29, 2016 17:03
@MikeEdenfield I'd wonder if noone downvoted you. People in an election are usually highly visible users who necessarily make quite some enemies over time, some of them even unbeknownst. If noone downvotes you, you haven't really engaged in moderating the site at all yet.
Jan 28, 2016 15:48
@CreationEdge Which is probably why Richard and Thaddeus won.
Jan 28, 2016 15:41
TBF, none of the platforms are really that different.
Jan 28, 2016 10:40
@WadCheber No, but this site is creepy.
Jan 28, 2016 05:22
True. Meaningless spoiler-paranoid titles, but not so much linkbaity ones.
Jan 28, 2016 05:05
Step 1: encourage lots of low-rep users to retag stuff
Step 2: they generate loads of suggested edits that you can now approve
Step 3: STINKIN' BADGES!
Step 4: real ultimate power
Jan 28, 2016 04:40
I was a problem too recently for comfort.
Jan 28, 2016 04:40
You'd just have to do what I do as an employee: every time you wonder what to do in a particular situation, ask yourself "what would stop me from being a complete ass in this situation if I wasn't the one having to settle it?"
Jan 27, 2016 21:41
it's not funny until you post it on MSE
Jan 27, 2016 21:24
Jan 27, 2016 20:50
@JackBNimble what if you dont have a heart?
Jan 27, 2016 20:47
@MikeEdenfield if you get elected (which I hope, by the way: I don't know you much, but from what I've seen, you'd make a very good mod), thinking about this will be a daily activity
Jan 27, 2016 20:31
@phantom42 yeah, and yet he somehow managed to be active and caring enough to earn another suspension
Jan 27, 2016 20:28
darth melkor/jimmy shelter rage quit seemingly largely due to issues with a specific mod.
Jan 27, 2016 20:28
The good news is we say things like "a specific mod" and a "certain user" so that nobody knows who is being talked about.....
Jan 27, 2016 20:27
@MikeEdenfield Sachin and DVK also blame the mods, but that's their permanent state, they've been doing that since day 1
Jan 27, 2016 20:26
I promise a zero loss rate in participation. I will go to these peoples' homes and FORCE them to participate.
Jan 27, 2016 20:25
but certain people are trying to make a big deal out of it because they want to pain the current moderator team as bad peepz.
Jan 27, 2016 20:17
thanks for linking that. now i can upvote it twice
