Is it just me or is the edit behaviour somewhat confusing?

Q: Update on Documentation and public beta

luweiqiIt has been quite some time since the original planned public beta launch in April. There are still a number of unfixed bugs and feature requests unresolved. The latest update was given around a month ago. So, Is there any planned timing on when public beta will launch in Stack Overflow. ...

Q: May 7th New Feature Announcement

Kevin MontroseA number of rather large new features have gone out recently. New Navigation The documentation "tiles" have been redesigned to make it easier to find existing topics, and to be a little lighter. We've also resigned the navigation inside a tag's documentation - these tabs will be shown ever...

@AdamLear, any update on when public beta will start ? When will the next wave of invites go out ?
Apr 27, 2016 13:20
I think it all works as expected, I'm just disappointed because I thought I might have found a gaming avenue...
Apr 18, 2016 13:26
@XavierCombelle Have a look at the Documetation tour: docs-beta.stackexchange.com/tour/documentation (there's also a link to it in the header on the site)
Apr 15, 2016 08:32
grr now I need to add a freehand circle..
Apr 15, 2016 08:30
It might just be a cultural difference, but where I grew up we generally didn't put stringified elements as titles.
Apr 14, 2016 23:20
Hi all, thanks for the invite. Can anyone help me to find a clear explanation of the 'purpose' of the Documentation stack exchange? I'm finding it a little hard to create topics and add information as I feel I'm duplicating documentation elsewhere on the web.
Apr 14, 2016 13:56
after approx 1 1/2 pages this channel went slightly "mods are asleep, discuss life and the meaning of everything!" until, umm, about 3 minutes ago
Apr 13, 2016 23:12
you should have a "Next Flag" that works exactly like that mentioned "Next tip" Button to optimize flagging efficiency.
Apr 13, 2016 22:42
Well that's SO's version of the "Hit the beaver"-game
Apr 13, 2016 22:31
Just a wee bit repetitive.
Apr 12, 2016 21:28
I think documenting single use-cases and rather having 2-3 examples is better than one really long repetitive one.
Apr 12, 2016 19:53
(This is the part where the designers weep quietly about the stupid users, I'm sure.)
Apr 12, 2016 18:26
the actual verb is POST, but some call it ... TIM
Apr 12, 2016 17:35
I've asked 2 days ago about a specific topic (docs-beta.stackexchange.com/questions/954/…) and what people thought about it given a few items I wasn't sure about. Given that it received only a general (now deleted) answer I wanted to promote it here. But it's about python so maybe a bit specific. :)
Apr 12, 2016 16:11
I have almost completely forgotten everything I once knew about C. I used to be a kernel developer. You made me sad, Kevin. Very very sad. But I love the system :)
Apr 11, 2016 12:26
@MSeifert creating a heading inside remarks automatically creates an index of that section. You can then later edit that section. The box is the highlight for whichever section is being edited.
Apr 9, 2016 05:52
obviously don't troll for rep by making lots of tiny edits when you could've put a little more care into it and coalesced them, but also don't avoid making important edits because you feel they're too small

Apr 7, 2016 21:45
@Neal - I don't like all caps, maybe bold / italic is enough ?
Also the header markup isn't working right, it shows the #

Also the whole no comments on examples is harrowing. There should be some way to have a back and forth @AdamLear @KevinMontrose
Apr 7, 2016 16:19
for so docs beta, I think there's going to be alot of duplicate and crap content to filter through in the future, for e.g: docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/php/194/variables/729/…

Finally received my invite o/

1. something prevents us from linking to sandbox 2. with a direct link one can approve edits that are retracted 3. moving one example can delete a topic even if there is another example 4. I don't know, anyone found something else?
Apr 7, 2016 13:16
I already noticed that moving an example somehow clutters the edit-history. Anyone knows if the original contributors get rep after the example was moved? Do they receive rep for upvotes on answers on topic-links for BOTH topics?
Apr 7, 2016 12:11
@JohnLBevan Might be a good idea to edit the "hello world" topics of those two tags and clarify that / add a note about it, for future visitors
Apr 6, 2016 23:45
In the answer is a list of tags open for proposal: docs-beta.stackexchange.com/questions/750/… What you are describing sounds like the tag is not yet open.
Apr 6, 2016 15:53
@MattSherman it's actually a property of the tag wiki
Apr 6, 2016 13:15
@AdamLear - Did you have some time to look into docs-beta.stackexchange.com/questions/266/… again? It regularly crashes or blocks my browser (Firefox). I'm still not really sure what's the trigger but every time I alter some things in docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/python/333/… it happenes.
Apr 5, 2016 13:50
annotations will eventually be supported by browsers natively: w3.org/annotation/diagrams/annotation-architecture.svg
Apr 4, 2016 15:34
@jtbandes Okay, gotta ask: What desktop picture are you using in the last image on docs-beta.stackexchange.com/documentation/proposed/changes/2567, and can I have it?
Apr 4, 2016 12:54
Although my feature request here is somewhat related to that.
Apr 1, 2016 14:53
@luweiqi Pretty soon IIRC

@theheadofabroom If you post a short chatmessage your name is dispayed as "theheadofabro" - bug or feature? :)
Mar 16, 2016 08:09
@AdamLear, I think that should be made clearer somehow. For one, I'd usually assume that votes are anonymous - if it creates an improvement request (with my name attached ?), my downvote is no longer anonymous - it's sort-of visible to anyone who can see the improvement request.
I think it also needs to tell me that it will actually create an improvement request when selecting one of those options - I had no idea until now. (I even created an improvement request by accident because I didn't know it would..)
Mar 8, 2016 02:20
btw, my suggestion to have the split horizontal is well received. what do you think?
Feb 25, 2016 16:14
So, @AdamLear, I read and pondered your response and it seems to me that you agree that those redundant and basic topics i mentioned shouldn't exist ("The point isn't to recreate existing good docs, it's to create good docs for things that don't currently have them. " etc.) So how do i request the removal of a topic and can i use your answer as a justification in my request?
Feb 20, 2016 19:51
The thing (err.. example) I'm writing now is starting to look a lot like a big tutorial. Are tutorial-style examples accepteable ? In this case, I can't really split it into smaller pieces.
Feb 19, 2016 15:14
I actually like the editor - I think it's better than the one on main.. Plus it has support for markdown tables !
Feb 18, 2016 02:59
We might migrate things to MSO from here that are either unresolved bug reports or discussions that would benefit from a wider audience. But there's not much point in migrating early bug reports for issues that were fixed or feature requests that were implemented.
Feb 18, 2016 02:58
@DanielM. No. Current plan is to abandon (most) of the Q&A here, move the actual docs to Stack Overflow, and then Meta Stack Overflow will be come the usual place to discuss bugs, features, etc. If/when we expand to other sites (other technical sites could potentially benefit from docs), Meta Stack Exchange would also be an option for discussions.

We better make this a success then, otherwise you have to reverse all that stuff...
