I missed what the GNU tools are supposedly to blame for. In 30+ years, that's the first I've heard that the GNU tools are to blame for anything.

@overexchange I'm also noting that you have an extremely poor record of accepting answers. If you want people to spend time helping you, it may benefit you to actually accept the most helpful answers.

Point is that foo.github.io is for hosting pages, and github.com/foo is for hosting code. You can have a .com without a .io and there is no need for any html if you just want the .com to store your code.

It’s the new version of rubber duck debugging
Mar 30, 2022 21:49
@EnthusiastiC Tip: if you have GNU sort, you may use the --debug option to see the effect of the options you are using. E.g sort --debug -bk1,1

If you feel a question would be of interest to people here, then stick around, explain why it would be interesting, add some context. Don't just dump a link that will one-box and walk away.

@AndrasDeak reminds me of the time my wife couldn't find her keys; I reassured her, saying: "There there, they're there"

Yeah, I mean don't tell anyone (I have a reputation to maintain) but I use regexes every single time I need to parse HTML.

Thanks. I'll take the opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate the quality of your answers here. It's rare to come across people spending the time and effort to get to the bottom and get a complete understanding of things as you do. On top of that, and at least as precious, you're able to communicate it beautifully which I'll never be able to achieve. Please keep it going!

WHILE I'M HERE DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO TURN OFF CAPS_LOCK IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY HAVE IT TURNED ON WHEN YOU RUN SETXKBMAP -OPTION CAPS:SWAPESCAPE, YOU DON'T HAVE AN ESCAPE KEY, AND THUS END UP WITH NO WAY TO ACCESS THE CAPS_LOCK MODIFIER ANY MORE?

@Kusalananda surely if there's a JSON juggler's journal then there'd also be a shell-scripting script and an ed editorial, along with the boring bash book that bashes bash on page after page

There's also "subscriptions" from your network-level account; that can send you emails basd on matches.

I don't keep up these days, but one thing that has helped me find questions that I'm interested in are the "watched tags" (available from your profile -> Settings -> Tag watching & ignoring). Then you can use the /questions view and add a Filter of "Tagged with: my watched tags" and whatever other filters you want.

But "you should be making a cake instead (and here's how)" is an answer to "how can I parse XML with a regex" :P

My job is requiring we do skill self assessments and my minimum required skill in bash is "expert" which I can't give myself that rating because I know you all. Thanks :(

Also, Stephen, I did not specify how many milliseconds. A response time of 1200000 milliseconds is arguably a millisecond response time!

My colleague took over the call, and after that I only heard his side, which went:
"I don't know that."
"Sorry, I have no idea."
"Sorry, that's not something I work with."
"No, sorry, no idea."
*incoherent yelling*
"Well, you were on the phone with the right person a while back, but you didn't want to talk to her, and now I don't think she wants to talk with you!"
The customer hung up.
