BTW, Irfan has come up with another good app "Whats running", very powerful. For me battery hoggers and kernel Wakelocks (BBS is long discontinued) is main thing. It's got a ton of features that are useful for serious Android users. I've been using this since it was released. Promo codes available on his channel t.me/WhatsRunning

@govindak I think this is a programming question, in which case you're in the wrong room, but before you consider asking this question elsewhere, you might consider how you might make it less vague; i.e. give enough information for readers to know what you're talking about.

OEMs have long been using ARM TrustZone location to store the value of bootloader unlock status. That sucks no hardware can reach there without breaking the chip apart. Finding a vulnerability in bootloader to bypass AVB is tough and not scalable.

Brute forcing the lock code has become incredibly hard since android 7.

After 5th and 10th incorrect authentication attempt, there is a timeout of 30 seconds. Every successive attempt up to the 30th gets the same timeout. Between 30 and 140 attempts, the timeout grows in an exponential manner from 32 seconds to 17 hours 4 minutes. After 140 attempts the timeout for each incorrect attempt is 1 day. A brute force attack against a 4 digit PIN would take around 27 years to complete.

It's still recommended to use 6-8 digit PIN. People keep weak 4 digit PINs.

Don't s'pose anyone knows of a way to the old style tab interface back in chrome after installing Lollipop?

@Wolfpack'08 Sorry, I'm no Windows guy, so I'm not of much help there. You've got to find some ADB drivers for your device then – the curse of Windows users (on Linux, we don't need that stuff – it simply works without).

@Achu - You're probably better off asking in the Android room of SO – this site/chat is aimed at users of Android rather than developers

@MatiEzelQ wrong chat room, this room is for Android end-user. Aside of that, The official Android Developer should be the first get-go to learn about it. The following is the Android chat room for developer.

Q: 2020: a year in moderation

JNat As we say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one, we have a tradition of sharing moderation stats for the past 12 months. As most of you here are aware, sites on the Stack Exchange network are moderated somewhat differently to other sites on the web: We designed the Stack Exchange netw...

If you guys have any concerns about the site, mod activity, etc. PLEASE bring them up on Meta. The new chat room is good for extended discussion but chat is an extra augmentation, it's not the core place for getting in touch with mods or talking about site issues!

@beeshyams have you given PuppyLinux a try once? Puppy is what makes you feel like your old hardware is no longer old. :-)

How hard can it be to instal an apk file on an android phone? The answer: impossible. Three days I've been trying to do something so stupidly simple.

Hey guys, if you notice any more "5.0 causes a ton of problems on my Nexus 4" questions, would you VTC as a duplicate of this question? A lot of the problems seem to be resolved by a factory reset, as per the edit comment, so I've reopened that one.

Recently came across PageShot (testpilot.firefox.com/experiments/page-shot). It can take extended screenshots (full page, including the full scroll) which I found convenient and it's promoted by Mozilla. If anyone uses Firefox, you are welcome to check it out. :-) Sadly, it is available only for desktop versions of Firefox.

Some mornings I think you could replace me on this site with a bot that just comments "What are you trying to achieve?" on every question.

I see. Well, we've tried making it as clear as we can in the on-topic guidelines, but the people who ask poor-quality questions don't read those anyway. We've spoken before about a software feature to detect programming questions while they're still being written, but SE isn't willing to spend resources to make that happen. We're open to other suggestions if you have any.

Besides: Access to the MAC address seems to be pretty easy even in MM, and only requires the INTERNET permission. Which is granted to each app per default – for greater data protection or whatever.

I am not sure if it's a good idea to hide the chat link. I'd really like to see it besides the help, review, ... links in the top bar. An active chat is very healthy for the community

More helpful: If you are experiencing a problem with your Nexus 10 and you want to determine whether they are being caused by a third-party app, press the power button for seven seconds until your tablet reboots. Then press and hold both the volume up and down keys until you see the words ‘Safe mode’ appear in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

IMHO, always try to deduce the core problem. Do not VTC if the questioner falls for the X-Y problem or into any other of the common pitfalls
