One thing I consider when comparing these is the number of views. Questions with a higher number of views have proved to be better searchable, so they might be better as a master copy (minimizing the number of redirects).

On the other hand, when a recent question has much better answers than older ones, that should trump the views.

Students typically tag [statistics] because their course is named so. Sometimes misleadingly named, just because Statistics is Useful In Real World), sometimes the course combines probability and statistics, and the question comes from the probability part.

I voted to close a couple as a duplicate of Complex numbers equation: $z^4 = -16$. Was not sure about Drawing $z^4 +16 = 0$; perhaps "drawing" emphasis makes it different from others.

Suggestion: if you can fix the issue with the post, or it already has been fixed, pick Edit option instead of Leave Open: in addition to being a Leave Open vote, it removes the question from the queue.

Combinatorial Proof for Binomial Identity: $\sum_{k = 0}^n \binom{k}{p} = \binom{n+1}{p+1}$ is currently closed as a duplicate of Prove $\sum_{i=0}^n\binom{i+k-1}{k-1}=\binom{n+k}{k}$.

The only difficulty seems to be writing down the equations (which doesn't involve math but rather the physics behind the problem), once they're written down they're immediate to solve.

@AméricoTavares I'm sorry but I don't quite follow. How does the existence of answers imply that the question is on-topic? It is a basic question on electrical circuits. I know some people can learn about units or Newton's laws in something that's called a "math" class, but here it seems to be an enormous stretch...

Either way, I consider it as a false dichotomy to have "community votes" and "moderator votes," especially since votes to close/reopen (in contrast to up/down votes) are not expressions of a personal opinion but enforcing policies, for everybody. The name "vote" is really confusing in this context, unfortunately.
