Q: Is Vim immune to copy-paste attack?

Adam TrhonYou should never paste from web to your terminal. Instead, you should paste to your text editor, check the command and then paste to the terminal. That's OK, but what if Vim is my text editor? Could one forge a content that switches Vim to command mode and executes the malicious command?

Should've named it <M-x>chat. Just to confuse everyone.

Don't be embarrassed. We all learn from code reviews.

While I have a lot of appreciation about long-term financial stability, it seems that SE's transformation in to run-of-the-mill-enterprise who will gladly screw over anyone as long as it's in the business' interest is now complete

I've definitely used that style before. Except I'll put a " before the explanation part usually

@janos I'm pretty sure you're just trying to get a hat, but I'll comply anyway. :P

Q: :wq, or, giving up mod status

Martin TournoijI sent an email to the Stack Exchange team asking to resign my mod status. I've been active for almost five years, since the start of the private beta in February 2015. I feel that I've learned all that I wanted to learn and feel rather "Vimmed out". I don't see that changing in the near future...

Got a fun little riddle for all you vimmers: Starting from normal mode, insert the exact text Hello world! into your buffer. The twist is that no keystroke may be repeated. Fewest keystrokes wins

I just wanted to say that I'm so happy vi.SE exists. It made my week to have found this.

BTW, I think it would be good if we had more questions that are not a very good fit on StackOverflow (or maybe even SuperUser), as that would validate the existence of vi.SE more ...

I think it's really funny how often I end up linking to this answer. I didn't realize how common of a question it would be when I answered it, but by now it has 9 other pages linked to it, and a good chunk of those are from me.

You can use the "votes" tab on the tag's page @TuyenPham – for example: vi.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/…

Damn you got it in the review queue! When I answered it I was expecting to get the first review too (I'm running for my 1000 reviews badge!) but didn't see it :) But once again we have pretty much the same schedule to visit the site.

And yeah clearly I answered too fast and as usual, Luc was there to point out that my answer could be simplified! I've stopped counting the number of my answers where he commented "but... you can do much simpler", this guy is really good at vimscripting!

@Rich Ahah it's true that we posted several answers at a few seconds of difference. Maybe we are in the same time zone and check the site at similar hours? Or maybe we don't have a life and check the site too much ;)

Q: Proposal to update the "What topics can I ask about here?" section of help center

statoxThe "What topics can I ask about here?" section in the help center has not been modified since the birth of our site back in February 2015. Now that the site has grown and gained in traffic, I feel like it could be updated to reflect the decisions which have been taken thanks to some meta questi...

I never though I'd explain how OO could be used in vim scripts, but I did https://github.com/LucHermitte/lh-vim-lib/blob/master/doc/OO.md
Remarks are welcomed, even if I don't know when I'd able to take them into account.

Mar 9, 2017 17:55
@A---B let me know if you find some I'd be interested in purchasing them also
Mar 9, 2017 17:38
I think there's a help file that goes over it
Mar 9, 2017 17:34
@A---B I think in that case, you could do <C-v>w and then in the new window, :term
Mar 9, 2017 10:41
@A---B You can do exactly what you ask with either NeoVim or the ConqueTerm plugin.

@Tumbler41 If it hasn't yet been asked, there's still an argument to ask it anyway.

That feeling when you've got a great question for the SE, but in the process of fleshing out a good example you solve the problem...

Hi there, following this question vi.stackexchange.com/questions/7863/list-of-most-useful-vimrc, I suggested that having a reddit/git repo set up to collect those links. I am aware of the vi-se github account, do you think this could be the place to create such a repo and make the community share its "best" vimrc, with comments, and maybe insight of why the vimrc is "good". What do you think ?

Q: Happy birthday, Vi and Vim!

muruSo, it's been a year since we entered private beta. From Area 51: 4.4 questions per day 91% answered 1.7 answer ratio 1,251 visits/day For a few months now, we have held steady on these stats (visits per day dancing around a bit). I take that to mean we have staked claim on a corner of the In...

Use thus: nv -q grep -n foo *
Sep 1, 2015 17:19
@romainl Not really. ftplugins don't have source guards since they get loaded for every buffer of that filetype, so ~/.vim/ftplugin/foo.vim is loaded first and can be overridden by $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/foo.vim. Then ~/.vim/after/ftplugin/foo.vim is loaded and can override anything done by $VIMRUNTIME/ftplugin/foo.vim.

@GonçaloRibeiro First rule of Area 51 statistics: don't pay attention to Area 51 statistics. They were chosen back when Area 51 was starting without any experience to see whether these statistics would be relevant. Despite experience showing that they are in fact poor indicators, their description hasn't been updated.
