I'd post this on Programmers instead of Stack Overflow (but I'm not sure it's on-topic even there)... — Adriano Repetti 38 secs ago

I strongly recommend M. Feathers' "Working Effectively With Legacy Code". I myself got this as a hint at programmers.stackexchange.com and at first was a bit dissapointed because I wanted an answer, not a book suggestion. But ... I read the book and it really, really will help you moving from bad or mediocre design to good, flexible, stable design. — TobiMcNamobi 12 secs ago

My first reaction was the same as @Shashank. So I did google it to see what turns up in the first few results. Two related questions from programmers.stackexchange and stackoverflow are returned in the top three results. So while it's an easily google-able question I don't think it warrants any '-1's. — Scott 33 secs ago

and ty. now I have found it (programmers.stackexchange.com). but think about what I commented. If you just are use to stackoverflow it is NOT easy at all to find a place to make this type of comments just "searching" around. — Alvaro Menéndez 28 secs ago

@ddriver So, the asker is expected to know whether there is a standard term for this particular paradigm in order to know which site to ask the question on? If there is a standard term, then the question is a fit for SO and if not, the question is a fit for Programmers? This is a bit of a catch-22, don't you think? This question is not asking for a discussion on what to call this paradigm--it's asking if there is a name for it, and if so, what is that name? To me, this seems a perfect fit for SO. If you don't agree, you could leave a better explanation as to why it's not a fit for SO? — nhgrif 32 secs ago

@nhgrif fair enough. I guess the place for this is Programmers then? — Brad 51 secs ago

Stack Overflow is for when you have an actual "problem", or bug. Right now, your question implies that you haven't even started coding yet. I don't know, but programmers.stackexchange.com might be what you are looking for. — cullub 45 secs ago

I'd like to remind close-voters that questions about "software tools commonly used by programmers; and is" ... "a practical, answerable problem that is unique to software development" are on topic and don't belong on SuperUser. — Mark Rotteveel 38 secs ago

If this is a conceptual question, you would be better posting it in the ‘programmers‘ stack exchange. — Rossiar 56 secs ago

@IraBaxter It's not me who's insistent. My boss wants output. I want to do more research and design, but it's "Try the most obvious attack schemes, even if they aren't great nor clear, and see what hits immediately. If it doesn't work, we move on to something else, although we're going to have to go back to this problem later." Trust me when I say I'd like to take a more systematic approach to the problem. You have over 45 years in the game -- maybe this is more a programmers.stackexchange problem, considering my 'plunging' isn't particularly an incompetency issue, but more a cultural one. ha — Mr_Spock 21 secs ago

although use cases are software and system engineering tools, they are not really part of programming languages and you might get a better answer on programmers. — JGreenwell 14 secs ago

Thank's for replay Patrick and others. But my opinion is that you are programmers with limited knowledge who earn badges on this site if you do not know something. I will ask the same questions on Server Fault. — Arsenije 32 secs ago

For the man who vote this topic as off-topic, I think you didn't read the What topics can I ask about here?. ` (...) if your question generally covers… (...) software tools commonly used by programmers; (...) then you’re in the right place to ask your question! `. Read before give feedback. — Fernando Paladini 30 secs ago

Most likely this is all possible. You have your steps so try and work on the parts individually. If you get stuck with something specific update your question. This site is for programmers and programming enthusiasts. We are not here just to write code for people. People actually get paid for that. — Matt 34 secs ago

According to the Royal Mail website there should always be a space between between the out code and the in code. The second part - i.e. the in code should always be of the form space-number-alpha-alpha. The JavaScript found on this site validates and adds a space. A basic regex for the in code is ([0-9]{1}[ABDEFGHJLNPQRSTUWXYZ]{2})$Jason Fox 1 min ago

Hey Tony, this question isn't really in the Spirit of SO - we help you fix problems that you have identified. Unless your "friend" is gcc or he comes with a stacktrace, not much we can do here :) Check Programmers, maybe? — en_Knight 1 min ago

@JK - Slowly. Honestly I'm not too sure which SE this would be better off on - Here, (Obviously not, given the feedback), Programmers or Code Review - and even then I'm not too sure of the reception it will receive on any of the other pages either. — Ben 46 secs ago

We'd load them in fifty thousand at a time, then go through a queue and mark them valid/invalid. After we built up 100, it would generate JS to paste into the console to flag them all, with exactly 5 seconds between each. Ah, good times :D
Apr 8, 2015 22:46
Also, yes, they have noticed an upswing in flags on recommendation comments.

This is not meant as an insult; but well: a person that is developing a real world medical system ... should really be able to at least outline potential solutions himself. Sure, it is always better to discuss ideas with experienced programmers; but relying on stackoverflow to tell you how to design your medical application; wow. — Jägermeister 58 secs ago

The "code review" site is for code that works properly, but which you think might be improved somehow. If you've got an error, like the one you described, then this site is the correct place for your question. But you have to SAY you've got an error, because not all computer programmers are psychic. — David Wallace 2 mins ago
