Hi, folks! I'm freezing this room for now as it's not actively monitored by SE (it's quite an old room). If we do return to monitoring it, I will unfreeze it.
But yeah, chat development hasn't really been touched in quite a while. There's still folks at Stack (including @balpha) who might be familiar with how SE chat works, but they're not currently touching chat. Though Philippe (Director of Community) has mentioned that chat improvements are something he'd like to get some attention/focus on sometime
@JacobMiller It was never really maintained during my time at Stack; I just sorta came across it. In any case, I certainly don't maintain it, because Stack laid me off in October
Hi there. I believe something is missing after your in the chat faq ("Do I have to be nice" paragraph): If your chat messages are repeatedly being flagged by your peers you might find yourself muted, banned, or – in extreme cases – your The Stack Exchange Network reputation may be negatively affected.
We're trying to build a system better and easier to use than IRC, that is native to modern web browsers. Will we support XMPP? We're not sure yet. In the meantime, there is a nascent community project to create an IRC interface to our chat.
At the new room page, chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/new, I try to change the related site to "Politics", but when I try to actually create the room, it reverts back to "Electrical engineering" every time. Can someone tell me how to move forward?
I found a bug where I can see the activity of the moderator private rooms. I can't see what's being posted in them, only the two most recently used ones and their names. For example, I can see that 7 minutes ago, Xerno sent a message in Sunlight and Paul White sent a message in the Teachers' Lounge 25 minutes ago. I'll post about it on MSE as soon as I'm unsuspended and un-question banned.
In the chat system, stars and pins are retained when moved to another room. This is probably a bug. Here a picture:
When a room owner pins a message, they can move it to another room, and they cannot unpin it. However when a starred message is moved to another room, the user can unstar it in the...
As the link in quid's answer explains, you can create a new room for you or another user. I will add that it is also possible to invite a user to already existing room.
You first need to find this users chat profile either by searching among users or simply by clicking on they username in chat.1...
Hello! Recently I created a couple of rooms, but now they are in the Math community. I wanted to run them in the Physics community to chat with a couple of users there. I did it through the button "users" in the chat on physics.stackexchange. Why are the rooms in the Math comm? And how can I move them in the Phys comm?
