And to think we could have saved all this trouble by automatically electing three highest rep nominees. :)
Dec 23, 2014 20:15
@Behaviour Barely any point in the long run. Basically it was just an extra sentence noting that one can view the online summary, plus the farewells to Willie and Alex plus the welcomes to the newcoming moderators were paragraphs long.
Dec 23, 2014 20:12
1st choice vote counts: Daniel 554, Jyrki 259, Pedro 174, Jack 111, Ilmari 103, Anastasiya 72, Arkamis 56, Shaun 48, Ahaan 24, Dustin 24
Dec 23, 2014 20:07
That kinda eats the announcement post I was planning to make.
Dec 23, 2014 20:05
Asaf did not disappoint
Dec 23, 2014 19:53
7 minutes. I hope Asaf will be quick as usual to provide results.
Dec 23, 2014 15:51
I don't know what to think about the current state of the 2014 moderator election. It's great that so many people are eager to help, but I don't feel like any of the current candidates fit the bill.
Dec 23, 2014 05:49
I do however hope that they find some way to mail her whatever bling SE had in mind for the nominees, t-shirts and such things I suppose; I think she would really cherish something like that more than most being a 14 year old child in Crimea.
Dec 19, 2014 21:43
To find how many users who voted so far, subtract 1137 from the number of Constituent badge awards.
Dec 19, 2014 21:05
Is there some difference in points given to candidates depending on who is my first, second, third choice for moderator?
Dec 19, 2014 18:38
The Werewolf Hunter hat is so close! (Everyone voting in the final round will get it, unless they have it already). Although it'd prefer a Vampire Slayer hat personally.
Dec 19, 2014 15:11
Hello. Does anyone have any questions for me regarding my candidacy? I doubt very much that I'll win but I'm pleasantly surprised at how I'm doing so far :)
Dec 19, 2014 14:58
@BillDubuque Nice attempt at a pivot. Out of all the off-topic comments here, it is my one poignant comment you pounce upon. Apparently I am a "usual suspect" for pointing out shenanigans, and that's OK with me. I have no idea how you read your moderatorhood into that comment. But since that's too far off topic, I won't pursue it.
Dec 19, 2014 09:30
Let's create something in Ramanujan-like fashion ...
Dec 19, 2014 03:07
@DanielFischer Thanks for the clarification. Now I can better understand your position, and, thankfully, it helps alleviate some of my concerns.
Dec 19, 2014 02:16
I do really salute your determination by the way ;) keep it up dude, but you won't have my vote (I feel that your first day task as mod will be deleting my account xD )
Dec 18, 2014 22:42
@quid I don't worry about it a bit - rather, I find it all quite hilarious. I recall rotfl'ing for days when I saw the version of his profile that professed his love for Shog9 via a modded xkcd comic. I can't wait to see the next installment. Drink up!
Dec 18, 2014 22:24
@skullpatrol To earn that, you have to start debunking some of his many SE fanboy quotes. I cannot understand how it is possible to drink that much SE Kool-Aid without exploding.
Dec 18, 2014 21:24
@BillDubuque It's not a campaign for me. I'm just doing my part in participating in a bit of clean-up of the site. I know you have fundamentally different ideas about what is good for the site, but you may be able to believe that I'm just doing what I think is good for the site.
Dec 18, 2014 21:14
@quid that link is 128 characters. Whenever there is a string of over 80 characters without whitespace, chat adds a couple of HTML spacing entities.
Dec 18, 2014 20:23
OTOH I feel the election itself could be a bit shorter.
Dec 18, 2014 20:17
Back to the topic: two of top ten candidates are yet to answer the questionnaire: Jyrki Lahtonen (who said in advance he'll be late) and Anastasiya-Romanova 秀.
Dec 18, 2014 19:38
(To avoid misconception let me add, the parenthetical refers to a meta debate on the subject; not some specific votes.)
Dec 18, 2014 19:37
@Thomas I second or rather third or fourth the sentiment of being sorry you quit the race. (Even though you have a strange approach to upvoting ;-) )
Dec 17, 2014 22:13
I'd like to see more of the effort to identify dupes, both on the part of question askers and the voters. And this is a scenario where moderators should feel free to exercise their vote to close.
Dec 17, 2014 19:51
@quid here
Dec 17, 2014 18:40
Top 11 as of now: Daniel Fischer 763, Jyrki Lahtonen 573, Pedro Tamaroff 457, Jack D'Aurizio 317, Ilmari Karonen 315, Thomas 287, Arkamis 241, Shaun 109, Anastasiya-Romanova 秀 24, Ahaan S. Rungta 21, Sanath 14
Dec 17, 2014 17:44
@Behaviour Already retracted. I have read the Help Center in the past. It's the fine like about the History of Math that got me over there. No major deal. ;)
Dec 17, 2014 17:05
Candidates should add TL;DR at the top of their answers: "My reputation is ..."
Dec 17, 2014 17:02
The candidates' answers are slowly being reordered by reputation. I wonder how many people are actually reading them compared to how many are voting on them.
Dec 17, 2014 13:19
@mick could you please update the link on top of your nomination to point to your answers.
Dec 17, 2014 07:47
@JackD'Aurizio You may want to change the link at the top of your nomination so that it points directly to your answers, instead of the beginning of that long thread.
Dec 17, 2014 00:50
Yes, and dustin is not too far away either (at -7 and 20 votes behind). It's a bit surprising the other candidates for the contested slots did not write anything.

A: Please put answers underneath questions in Close review queue

Ilmari KaronenI'd very much like to see this done, at least for questions with suggested duplicates. Why do I want this? Well, the notice placed on questions closed as duplicates looks like this: This question already has an answer here: Link to duplicate question   n+1 answers The way I see it, if t...

Dec 16, 2014 23:14
The "possibly related questions" list that pops up when you start typing a question is much better, but it only shows up when you've already decided that "OK, I'm gonna ask a question myself."
Dec 16, 2014 23:09
And I can't express myself, so I guess It firmly nails the coffin of my nomination. Oh well. — Daniel Fischer 45 mins ago
Dec 16, 2014 23:09
Don't worry @DanielFischer, nobody reads meta anyway.
Dec 16, 2014 22:43
With answers like that, my chances this time are starting to look pretty poor, though. ;)
Dec 16, 2014 22:09
Tight race continues in the 9-11 range: Sanath 15, Ahaan S. Rungta and Anastasiya-Romanova 秀 tied at 13.
Dec 16, 2014 18:03
Since the top 8 are some distance ahead of the rest, I'll post 9-11 now: Anastasiya-Romanova 秀 16, Sanath 12, Ahaan S. Rungta 9.
Dec 16, 2014 05:14
@MikeMiller I certainly don't think that the top-3-by-rep are unqualified, and they each seem to have a good head on their shoulders. That's part of the reason why @AlexanderGruber and I haven't mysteriously suspended any of them in the last few days.
Dec 16, 2014 05:10
You'd have to mix bubblegum toothpaste with sand in a waffle iron and drink it through your nose
Dec 16, 2014 02:02
Current results: Daniel Fischer : 440 // Jyrki Lahtonen : 327 // Pedro Tamaroff : 271 // Jack D'Aurizio : 170 // Ilmari Karonen : 165 //
Thomas : 165 // Arkamis : 135 // Shaun : 34 // Sanath : -7 // Anastasiya-Romanova 秀 : -9 // end of top 10 // Ahaan S. Rungta : -12 // dustin : -20 // the rest are way out of it
Dec 16, 2014 01:07
I have to say, those answers to the questionnaire are pretty long. I demand a hat for reading all of them.
Dec 16, 2014 00:32
So we're looking at a few different options for making it easier to quickly sift through it.
Dec 16, 2014 00:09
Sorry, I'm not writing a script that makes multiple AJAX requests to the page to fetch the negative scores. I'm busy working on my On the Road hat.

A: How did a candidate nominate themselves after the deadline?

Shog9Apparently there's a grace period on the nomination cut-off. I'm also inclined to consider that a bug, albeit one we haven't really had to worry about much. For the time being, I've left the nominee a polite "better luck next time" and removed him from the running, as strictly-speaking he should...

Dec 15, 2014 22:44
Cautionary tale. In recent Server Fault election, the primary results were as follows. Sven : 535 // Ward : 363 // HBruijn : 346 // Falcon Momot : 285 // HopelessN00b : 89..... Those in bold were elected.
Dec 15, 2014 22:42
Something to keep in mind: the primary phase isn't intended to be particularly accurate or unbiased. It's only purpose is to get the number of candidates down to something manageable - anything better than "pick the top 10 users by reputation" is good enough.
Dec 15, 2014 22:40
9 users with positive scores so far... Daniel Fischer : 350 // Jyrki Lahtonen : 265 // Pedro Tamaroff : 212 // Thomas : 133 // Jack D'Aurizio : 131 // Ilmari Karonen : 128 // Arkamis : 106 // Shaun : 23 // mookid : 14
