@LanceKind in terms of actively "doing" things the time commitment is very light on a relatively quiet site like Writing - more than anything the time comes from being around fairly often so you can respond relatively quickly if and when issues arise. The majority of the work is reactive - a user raises a flag and a moderator chooses what action (if any) is appropriate to take
