Here, let me go find some more hair, the one you're working with is getting awfully thin.

Security is about configurations not systems
Jul 12, 2011 18:37
@Jin No. But MacOS may be deemed more secure than Windows (under the right light, that is),

I usually drive to gigs so drink tonic water - absinthe doesn't really go with being in charge of anything, let alone a vehicle

Nothing encourages passwords on post-its quite like high complexity requirements + frequent expiration.

that's the @AviD special!

I really like the sound of this phrase, by the way, "Compliance reduces the risk of penalties of non-compliance"

Jul 8, 2011 13:47
The issue is when non-it people ask questions that really need input from experts, which happens all the time. So I think we do want to tone down the faq.

Interesting comment there about a possible migration here: "I'm not an IT security professional or expert, so I didn't think I belonged on security.stackexchange. If my question does indeed belong there then I think that site needs to do some re-branding to make it clear that questions like mine are welcome"

@ScottPack @Rory @Iszi The plan is for the T-shirts to be security.se branded, not generic SE stuff. I believe you guys are next in line to graduate, and get a custom brand/logo. It's gonna be tight, but if everyone pushes hard @Jeff said the custom swag may be done in time.

The FAQ has contained one key bit of advice from the very beginning:

It’s also perfectly fine to ask and answer your own question, as long as you pretend you’re on Jeopardy! — phrase it in the form of a question.

If …

To be crystal clear, it is not merely OK to ask and answer your own question, it is explicitly encouraged.

I do it all the time! For example, when I ran into a nasty issue with Java exploits in Google Chrome when browsing for images, I documented that on Super User by asking and answering my own question. Now, others can benefit from my misfortune — and best of all, I got new even better answers beyond what I offered! Overall, a huge win all around. …

@RebeccaChernoff :-) ah - will get a quick meta post up asking for thoughts and graphics...nudge nudge, wink wink, a nods as good as a wink to a blind bat
Jun 29, 2011 18:34
@RebeccaChernoff I plan to start by highlighting some of the password- and authn- related questions.
Jun 29, 2011 18:29
@RebeccaChernoff Is there any integration in authn systems between the blog and SE? Or do you just suggest that folks use the same openid that they use now for SE?

@nealmcb damn you and that auditd question! Hopefully I'll be able to find the time to write up a good response. I am really looking forward to the answers. Should be good stuff.

balphaMost of these now work. My comment below has the following markdown source: On [main], you are expected to write proper English (as advertised on [english.se]), but here on [metaso] it's more important to have freehand circles, so please [edit] your post, otherwise I'll have to flag you (see ...
