The mods respond to questions, challenges, and proposals erratically and often (not always, not even the majority of the time, but enough that it's confidence-shaking) inappropriately.

@SevenSidedDie You did do your best. When my best causes tremendous damage, and I recognise what the damage is, I apologise for it to the people who it's hurt and acknowledge the damage I did, and offer a way for it to not happen again, and listen out for them to say what they have to say.

@SevenSidedDie .......... the game rec rules is not the issue that was not resolved. The moderator's entire interpersonal interaction with the community and their entire handling and communication and the effects it had on the community is not resolved.

@SevenSidedDie This is about nothing short of how do we policy. Yes it is that general.

and it's awkward when it looks like you're staying wrong but you've privately resolved not to.

Basically, blame is a terrible way to start a discussion with someone you want anything from.

Here, let's examine all the language here for a relatively new person:
- There's a three year old meta saying game recommendations are on topic, here's the rules for them.
- This meta then provides stringent rules for how to handle game recommendations.
- The mods understood this to mean "all recommendations ever".
- The new users understood this to mean "that game recommendation tag. Also we apply those rules to published adventures, 'cause they're kinda the same deal."
- The mods asked a question saying "are game recommendations still working?" and discussed problems that occur within the

My new attitude is "Go to the CMs. Everyone. About any or all of this, whatever is your particular concern. Let them sort it out because obviously 2+ years of us trying is just making it worse."

But I didn't feel comfortable bringing it up, in part because I wasn't sure what the best way to go about it was (in order to avoid inviting unfair attacks rather than the constructive discussion we vitally need to be having), and in part because, well... I feared it would be another concern dismissed.

And yes, I do think it's reasonable to wonder whether a mod team that's so ignorant, or so ambivalent, or so cowed, or whatever it is that's let a moderator continue his name-calling, denigrating, straw manning, behaviour for so long, is really the group of people who should be moderating the site. Again, it's not an accusation I would level, but I certainly can see where it's coming from.

afaik it is just 2 high rep users,

...and a reputation on GitP
Feb 9, 2016 12:35
@Derpy That is an accusation of quality which cannot be legislated. To Anne Rice, ANYTHING that anyone did to her characters other than her was an abomination.

The Body is... really well done, but not exactly a "fun" episode.

@KRyan that's a standard SE policy.

@waxeagle I fought tooth and nail against d7's election, for all I do have a lot of respect for his ability to largely lay aside his personal feelings

I am much happier with my gaming since I separated fun and exploration of psychological trauma in game form.

The Seventh Bride is a fantasy story where acting rationally and without emotion might resolve things a lot faster, but the narration digs into exactly why people act with compassion and restraint when acting practically and extremely would seem to be more effective. While it examines the problems with a social code, it also makes a compelling case for the need to have them.

That's your problem.

If you're ever sad, just remember the world is 4.543 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie.

It never occurred to me that he was someone who could die. He was like a mountain, or an idea.
Jan 11, 2016 07:17
If you don't follow music, you just don't know ... but in 200 years, history books will write about Bowie the way they do Mozart.
Jan 2, 2016 01:42
@trogdor Pretty sure. The breeding them for stock concept is only in that one, I think.
Jan 1, 2016 10:59
Oh, this is interesting. It's a mix of the original, the RichaadEB version, and the Bees version. A bit punchier than the RichaadEB version on its own.

You might want to poke around the Homestuck soundtracks if you're digging Undertale's music. Only some of it is Toby's, but it's all pretty good. I'm grateful for Undertale if only because I've always wanted more music like this. xD

Remove anonymity, remove an audience. Connect the people so they can identify as being together. Give them a means to be expressive toward each other so they can recognise when others are happy or hurt. Give them a reason to care about each other. And then you have a group of people who work together.

@Shalvenay This is a really, really important point. Player desires come before character desires 100% of the time; under no circumstances does a character roleplay precede what a player is willing to do. Also, under no circumstances does any player's desire trump any player's qualms.

I'm pretty sure they don't pop out of the womb with the ability to wield a rapier, but even an elf raised among dwarves is gonna get that mechanic.
