Actually it's probably a good thing they didn't otherwise I would spend my time hacking Arduinos and wouldn't have done any work :-)

Superposition is really simple. Remove one battery and replace it with a wire, then calculate the currents (including the direction). Now put the battery back and remove the other battery and repeat the calculation. Now just add the currents (taking into account the direction).
