Hi, can someone please try this example in their TL2022? We seem to have some issues with it. (And yes, I'm aware that romannum hasn't been updated for 18 years, we just wanna know whether it's us or not...)
\listfiles
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{romannum}
\begin{document}
Hello! \Romannum{6}
\end{document}
@yo' Compiles here, with result "Hello! VI"
yo'
yo'
@mickep can you please post the listfiles?
@yo' Joseph could tell you something about not terminated roman numerals ;-)
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{romannum}

\renewcommand{\romannum}[1]{%
  \ifnum#1<1
    \ifnum#1=0
      o%
    \else
      -\romannumeral -#1 %space!
    \fi
  \else
    \romannumeral #1 %space!
  \fi}
\begin{document}
Hello! \Romannum{6}
\end{document}

@UlrikeFischer oh gosh! Thanks a lot :-)
Well, the maintainer is Will Robertson, so we have someone to blame :-)
(^^ @DavidCarlisle Did I do it right?)
@mickep thanks. We got l3backend-pdftex.def 2022-07-01

@yo' Oh, you mean I have not updated my latex. Probably right. :)
yo'
yo'
@mickep Yeah. We did and it spiced up our testing :-)
@yo' Now I upgraded, and now it hangs on your file...
yo'
yo'
@mickep yeah, try @UlrikeFischer's modification above :)
@yo' Yes, she is of course way ahead of me :)

So, something changed and now one has to have those spaces there. Interesting.
@mickep \MakeUppercase changed and now chokes on not terminated \romannumerals. @JosephWright answered a similar question yesterday on the texlive list.
@UlrikeFischer Ah, OK.

And another "funny" one :)
\documentclass{report}
%\usepackage[galician]{babel}
\begin{document}
\pagenumbering{roman}
Hello!
\end{document}
Oh why does a specific babel language redefine \@roman ?!
@yo' same problem. We seem to have developed a tool to find not terminated romannumerals.
\documentclass{report}
\usepackage[galician]{babel}

\makeatletter
\addto\layoutgalician{%
  \def\gl@roman#1{\protect\gl@msc{\romannumeral#1 }}}%
\begin{document}
\pagenumbering{roman}
Hello!
\end{document}
yo'
yo'
@UlrikeFischer yeah, and the same for some other babel languages -- seems to be a common topic :) I wonder whether it's best to file issues or fork and file PRs directly...
In babel-spanish (spanish.dtx):
\es@ifoption{ucroman}
  {\def\es@romandef{%
     \def\esromanindex##1##2{##1{\uppercase{##2}}}%
     \def\@roman{\@Roman}}}
  {\def\es@romandef{%
     \def\esromanindex##1##2{##1{\es@scroman{##2}}}%
     \def\@roman##1{\es@roman{\number##1}}%
     \def\es@roman##1{%
       \es@babeltexpdf{\es@scroman{\romannumeral##1}}{\@Roman{##1}}}%
     \DeclareRobustCommand\es@scroman{\es@xlsc\uppercase\@firstofone}}}
\es@optlayout{lcroman}{\es@romandef}
\newcommand\spanishlcroman{\def\@roman##1{\romannumeral##1}}

@yo' they could work in normal documents, but a few spaces wouldn't hurt to make it safe.
yo'
yo'
@UlrikeFischer but well, any time someone does \Roman, it breaks :-(
@yo' As @PauloCereda would say: What good has the \Romans done for us?

@yo' I made a few tests but didn't get a loop. But report it anyway, Javier should look at it.
yo'
yo'
@UlrikeFischer maybe it's something slightly more complex for the one I have in Spanish, I'll look into it more
@UlrikeFischer github.com/latex3/latex3/pull/1120/commits/… - proof that the code basically works for pdfTeX :)

@UlrikeFischer \MakeUppercase{\roman{...}} fails:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[spanish]{babel}
\begin{document}
Hello! \MakeUppercase{\roman{page}}
\end{document}
And it's questionable whether a package should need this. In this case it's in newspaper
