A: What does 786 mean?

Tabrez AhmedAs others have said, 786 is a hash of "Bismillah-hirRahmaan-irraheem". Instead of beginning a work with "Bismillah-hirRahmaan-irraheem", any work, writeups, etc. would now begin with 786. I wonder how hashing came to Qur'anic verses. where does the proof of using a hash arise? Though mathematica...

I like math and all, but hashing stuff like that and substituting it for the real phrases sounds messed up.
@muntoo we never see it in actual phrases
I like math a lot..but not in Islam please
just in paintings or places where writing the whole word is not possible
like during an exam i would like to write 786 rather than bism illāh ir-raḥmān ir-raḥīm on the top of my paper
@Ashu writing 786 will not fetch you the same reward as writing basmalah ..in fact writing 786 will fetch you not reward at all
*no

if I tell you xyz means allahu akbar, would you say that instead of takbir during the prayers?
exactly
@Ershad well IMO intensions is that matters. You say god or khuda or bhagwan , if you are referring to Allah then nothing else matters
@PowerInside no
@Ashu If intention is all that matters, you don't even need to write 786 on the paper in the first place.
i said it is just for smaller references like the eg i gave
@PowerInside well it reminds me that there is a force above to help me in need.. there is nothing wrong in that
@Ashu You perform deeds to get reward from Allah and to get full benefit of the reward you should do it properly. You know if intention is all that matters, why do we have texts explaining how we should do things? Everything is Intention + right action and words. Imaan is belief + action + statements right? That is what the prophet defined Imaan as.

I am not saying it is wrong. Just saying if you do it properly, you get full benefit of it, Insha Allah

@Ashu No problem with that, but don't make things too cryptic. Bismillah is supposed to be the full in its arabic and making '786' or "basmalla" more mainstream is not a good thing because it discourages the authentic arabic usage. I heard some where that Allah loves arabic more.. not sure if there's a hadith.
g2g.. everyone
assalamualikum
@PowerInside Me too , walaikkum assalam
