These characters are fun.
they seem like it
They are!
I would like to try rolling one
Do iiiit.
so it is page 55 and roll for aptitude first?
Sep 30, 2015 09:11
Yup.
inquisitive, ok
then language?
Yeah. That's a 2d10 roll on page 43.
doesn't seem to be on the page it says
Sep 30, 2015 09:13
Yup. Page 55 has a sidebar on top with the entire plan.
"Language Fields."
ah
2d10
Korean lol
it works at least

celebrity child
You have a wholesome youth on Earth as a... celebrity child.
If you don't wind up with at least a substance-abuse problem out of this, I'm going to be horribly disappointed.
Sep 30, 2015 09:16
I dunno how that works but wtv I guess XD
You're totally the star of a Disney Kids TV show.
so is that it on this table?
Yeah. Let's see.
or do I just keep going down?
HYPERELITE: MEDIA PERSONALITY
People know you. In fact, there’s a good chance that they see you on a regular basis. You’re an X-caster, a blogger, a
famous MARG gamer, a pundit, a performer, the spokesperson for a brand, an athlete, or some other form of celebrity.
Suggested Motivations: +Artistic Expression, +Fame, +Personal Career
+1 Moxie
+5 SAV, +50 Rep (Your Choice)
Art: (Choose One) 40, Disguise: 25, Fray 15, Interest: (Choose
One) 40, Interfacing 30, Language: (Choose One) 30,
Networking: (Media) 50, Networking: (Choose One) 20,
Persuasion 30, Profession: (Choose One) 40, Protocol 50
+60,000 Credits
If you want to roll for the Art, Interest, Networking, and Profession, go for it.
Sep 30, 2015 09:18
where does all that stuff start?
page 42.
so start on academic?
Wherever it says Choose One, roll on the corresponding table.
ah so art networking and profession
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 09:20
And interest.
poetry
2d10
security operations,...
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 09:21
8
2
scientist
2d10
martial arts
makes a little sense, with some of the rest of it,...
@Pixie so appropriate
so background,..
2d10
personality trait
Sep 30, 2015 09:24
@Pixie ...this is actually a great song for my dad's physical therapy.
oh it isn't a table
it's just a -30 to hide who I am XD
age
2d10
20's
direct to step 8
Roll 1d10 to find out exactly how old.
oh just one?
oh ok I see
1d10
Sep 30, 2015 09:28
6
You're 26! You were 16 when the Fall happened.
Same as my anarchist scientist escort.
I still skip to 8 though right?
Yeah.
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 09:30
You didn't have an adult life pre-Fall, and that's what the skipped steps are for.
rack up debt to get off world
Your parents probably blew all your money, if real child stars are anything to go on...
yeah exactly my thoughts
Did you roll a background event?
yeah
One of your personality quirks gains you some attention from peers, but then it becomes a permanent and noticeable part of your
daily behavior. Gain the Identifiable Quirk trait (p. 90).
apparently it makes it easier to guess who I am
Sep 30, 2015 09:34
I see. Oh. Oh dear. Did you have a catchphrase, Mr Child Star?
which makes sense because I was a child star too
probably
I can't think of one though
the funny thing is that I might have developed a habit of saying it just because I had to say it so often on a show
that is actually pretty messed up psychological stuff
Heh.
Yeah, it stuck with you.
so do I roll on table 9 now?
just all the way down?
Yup, keep following the steps
Sep 30, 2015 09:39
oh, do I roll on 9.1 first then 9.0?
9.0 first.
That tells you how many PP you get from the results of the rest of the tables in step 9.
it's a little confusing the way they word a couple things
mk
d10
Sep 30, 2015 09:40
1 faction 5 focus
So, your faction hardly matters at all (1 PP); people know you by your Focus (5 PP).
Now you roll 1d10 on 9.2.
You don't roll on 9.1 because you don't have a focus yet 'cause you're so young--so you don't roll to see if it changes.
ah ok
Sep 30, 2015 09:41
Just act like you rolled a 7 or higher on 9.1.
Cool, you'll stick with whatever faction your focus suggests.
so does that mean I go back to 6 and roll?
Yeah, now you roll on 6.1, new path.
Sep 30, 2015 09:43
10
Being a Celebrity Child, your Faction is Elite.
techie
Now come back to page 66
Roll d10 on 9.13, the Techie entry for post-fall paths.
Sep 30, 2015 09:44
Argonaut
Or, wait.
I think we got turned around somewhere
That's faction techie. Not focus techie.
[confused]
I'll let Magician sort this out.
Sep 30, 2015 09:45
Your focus is techie. Rolling on Techie focus, page 61, you got 2, which is Explorer. Page 32 for details. There.
(I'm getting confused too, a sec)
You get 5 pps of Explorer.
ah ok
what is SOM?
One of the stats, Somatics
They don't matter for us.
oh, does any of that stuff matter?
just mechanical stuff basically?
Kind of. The descriptions matter, the skills you get may give you a better idea of what your character's up to. And you usually get to roll for more professions or networking or what have you.
is there somewhere to roll it out or do I just pick at this point?
Sep 30, 2015 09:49
Like, Explorer says:
Academics: (Choose One) 40, Climbing 40, Fray 25, Freerunning 40, Infiltration 25, Interest: (Choose One) 30, Investigation 20, Kinetic Weapons 30, Perception 30, Profession: Gatecrashing 50, Profession: (Choose One) 30, Scrounging 40, Swimming 30
yeah
I see that
Pages 42-43
Every place that says "choose one," you can roll to randomise the choice on the tables that start on page 42.
(Or if you already have one, you can choose to increase it by that much more, I think.)
huh
I am confused here,...
I have no idea which table(s) I would roll on
Academics, Interest, Profession
Sep 30, 2015 09:54
ah
so again on those tables?
I rolled on those earlier I think
Yeah. Those are the new skills being an Explorer gives you.
and this time I only have like, 3 choices in each category
If you get same ones, the values add up, not that we care. But you're likely to get something different, which may tell us what role you actually played as an Explorer.
but what happens if I roll something not on the list of my choices?
does that not matter and I just take those anyway?
What do you mean? The Explorer package just gives you an Academic skill, for instance, you could take any.
Sep 30, 2015 09:57
uh but it specifies choices and numbers,...
The numbers are the rank of the skill.
2d10
xeno genetics?
So, you have (Xeno)Genetics ranked at 40.
Sep 30, 2015 09:58
2d10
politics,.....
2d10
squad tactics
this seems like a very broad set of interests
Squad Tactics as a profession, XenoGenetics as field of academic study, politics as interest. Damn, former child star is all growed up.
Sep 30, 2015 10:00
apparently
And still has the catchphrase. People assume you use it ironically, I think.
no please, help, I need speech therapy guys! I neeeed iiit
someone stop me from saying this stupid catchphrase
Ok, great. Now we go to table 9.13 for a techie faction - that's what we got before.
so Argonauts?
That roll was for a different table, but if you want to stick with it, that's cool too. Argonauts are nice.
Sep 30, 2015 10:02
oh different table
I will re roll
oh no
I think that is the same table I rolled on
I just got it earlier than I should have,....
Yup.
so step 10 now?
Yeah. You're on... 3+5+1 = 9 pps, if I'm not mistaken. Roll on table 10 to find out where you get the last one.
Sep 30, 2015 10:06
even more focus
very focused person apparently
Making up for the misspent youth?
Still a techie. Table 6.11 again.
Sep 30, 2015 10:08
10
techie techie wat
That's the name of the actual package, page 36
You only get 1 pp here.
But... yeah. You're all about getting things done now.
so hardware
hardware, interfacing, profession.
So, former child star with a verbal tick of a catchphrase, now a very dedicated and highly successful explorer. With a huge debt still unpaid. I wonder how events will shake him up.
uh
I have lost the table I was rolling on XD
Sep 30, 2015 10:13
Pages 42-43 for random skills, if you want to roll them. Otherwise page 67 for post-fall event.
ah here we are, I think
2d10
industrial
2d10
bodyguarding
I guess interfacing is just interfacing
Sep 30, 2015 10:15
Yeah, it's using computer systems the way you're supposed to.
mk
so post fall life event
2d10
edited memories
Paste the whole thing, it's the interesting bit :)
After an unfortunate incident leads to lack (lost memories due to resleeving from an old backup), you decide security of mind is a worthy investment.
Gain the Edited Memories trait (p. 149, EP) and 1 year of backup insurance (p. 330, EP)
I don't see this on the page it says
Sep 30, 2015 10:19
EP = core book
oooh
So here's a question for you. Was this an accident while you were out exploring on an exoplanet, or an "accident" made to look that way because you still haven't paid off your debt?
And what else did you get up to in your missing time? Lack is scary and weird.
hmm two really juicy options here
but if it was because of my debt, how did I also manage to pay for this and the insurance?
Isn't that a great question.
maybe it makes more sense to be because of a work accident?
Sep 30, 2015 10:21
Well, you seem to have a good job which probably pays well. Maybe your debt is more of a favor you owe.
it sounds like maybe I have such a dangerous job because it is directly related to my debt
so it could sort of be related to both things, because those things are themselves related anyway
Fair enough. And it's uncertain anyway - you are missing a large chunk of time.
though I think it would be more directly related to an on the job accident of some kind
true
missing stuff
Or, rather, you went for an annual backup, and then it was several months later.
Ok, given your profession it'd make sense to roll on the Gatecrashing event table
ah
happens to be step 12 too
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 10:25
3
7
lol
I think I re roll that
...yup, you are an explorer, through and through
or do not and it basically just doesn't do anything?
Reroll, maybe?
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 10:26
10
6
so I am just awesome,....
...yup. You are an explorer, end of list.
Results 1-48 on this and the next table and kind of safe and boring
yeah certainly looks it
Almost there. Firewall event?
2d10
Sep 30, 2015 10:29
5
9
TQZ
no idea what that is
TITAN Quarantine Zone. An area on Mars where you just don't go to.
oh
so I need a new body basically?
Yeah. Your current one got nommed.
lol
after all that I thought I was staying human
guess not
Sep 30, 2015 10:31
You may still roll one!
2d10
Good thing you got that backup insurance.
......... Octo
You're jumping a step
First it's morph type. Congratulations, you have a synth morph.
Sep 30, 2015 10:32
ah ok
so synth
that was in the middle so I thought it was my table XD
2d10
Mimic
> In its basic form, with its limbs retracted, a mimic morph resembles a spare and is only a bit larger than a human head. With its four pencil-thin telescoping legs fully extended, it can stand up to two meters tall, and its arms can also each reach up to two meters from the morph.
> These limbs can all be fully retracted and the user can also alter the morph’s shape and appearance, causing it to look like almost any small object such as a briefcase, cleaning robot, or household appliance. This morph can easily fit through small spaces and hide itself with great ease and is ideal for infiltration and sabotage missions.
Welcome to the wonderfully weird world of eclipse phase, here's your new body.
so I can hide and look like a normal everyday object but I randomly spout a catchphrase that almost anyone is likely to recognize if they know who I am
Ayup. You're a toaster now.
Sep 30, 2015 10:37
I R TINY ROBOT
hilarious
Last roll, story event!
2d10
You witness/survive a major disaster, such as a habitat failure,
ship collision, terrorist attack, or a freak but deadly accident
well what a wonderful life
I'm sorry, but now I'm imagining a space station rupture, and a little toaster floating through the debris in the vacuum going "Wassaaap?"
Sep 30, 2015 10:39
I needed more horrible psychological trauma that makes my catchphrase tick look like a normal disposition
So... You went from a child star to a technician going on exoplanet expeditions to suddenly waking up to find out you've lost half a year of your life, and now there's constant explosions around you. Where did it all go so wrong?
@BESW you are horrible
@trogdor How about "'Eeeeey"?
@Magician my life apparently went rapidly downhill
if my characters choice was involved, he probably picked this morph just to hide from people at this point
XD
@BESW I don't know that that actually helps your case
The little toaster that said, "Indeed."
Sep 30, 2015 10:45
I like that
though I am not entirely sure why a child's catchphrase would be that
still, I like it
a pretty horrible thing to say when almost everyone on the station but you is currently dying or dead, but he can't help it
years and years of therapy please
all the therapy
I imagine things went wrong starting at the Fall really
It seems like a given, but I think being in major debt, then going on to a dangerous job, basically dying and having memory loss and a new body are just a spiral
the explosion at the end there is just the cherry on top XD
It seems like most of these characters have substantially horrible lives
Except my Persian computer scientist. The worst he's been through is having to move suddenly.
yeah
but that was one out of 4 people
Five, including Magician's.
Oh gosh I just backread and this turned out wonderfully. For a value of wonderful.
and he was like,... the luckiest piece of ***************** ever
Sep 30, 2015 10:57
Well, all characters, indeed all people in EP have had to go through the absolutely horrifying Fall.
yes
but some people also had to go through more
technically, this guy got an up close repeat performance
XD
Fall, schmall. I got to watch the Fall from a luxury space station financed by my Real Dad.
@BESW I hate that guy
lol
Genocide is something that happens to other people.
it happened to me twice
so thanks for that
Sep 30, 2015 11:00
That's what you get for being famous instead of rich.
Everyone else: [struggles to survive in any form]
Obscenely rich space playboy: [noncomittal shrug]
that's what I get for my parents being horrible people
that's it, it's all my parents fault
that's what I will go with, blame them for all my problems
Ahah, that's your catch-phrase: "It wasn't me!"
perfect XD
(blurts the toaster as things explode around him)
Sep 30, 2015 11:02
yep
technicaly true, I think
even hilarious
"Technically, it wasn't me".
in a really dark form of humor
Alternately, "Spaaaaace."
not Spaaaace
it fits a toaster
not a kid
Sep 30, 2015 11:04
that is a lego
not a kid
I dunno, maybe you were cast as a lego.
to be fair, in Eclipse Phase it might not be too uncommon for shows to be set in space
even pre Fall
