I hate him.
I want to punch him.
This is wonderful.

...and we thought the last guy was privileged.
Okay, background event.
2d10
Gain +1 Moxie and roll on the Story Event table (p. 72).
2d10
> You befriend a brinker with some interesting ideas and unbelievable stories. Well, almost unbelievable.
What's a brinker?
Sep 30, 2015 06:26
I think they live on the edge of "civilized" space
Obviously we met through my customs job, and when he found out about my art we bonded over stories of literally outlandish erotic practices.
Age!
3d10
@trogdor Yup, they live in the isolation of space, for whatever reason.
Sep 30, 2015 06:28
ah ok
I'm 26, so I was 16 during the Fall.
...so I probably wasn't a Customs official at the time. Hm.
just to be clear, I was guessing based off of previous sci fi experience
I'll have to come back to that.
I did not read anything about them
So, what happened to me during the Fall?

You make a bad call that gets people killed. Now you question your gut feelings. Lose –5 INT.
yay!,... oh wait nvm
What did a 16-year-old exalt brat who builds spaceships and studies customs policies do to get people killed?
@BESW Screwed around with stuff at customs when he got brought in for a day, and something dangerous got through.
he didn't already work in customs,.. I would think
Sep 30, 2015 06:31
Maybe he was being groomed for the role
Ahah, that makes sense.
My family comes from a long line of hereditary customs lawyers for the ridiculously rich and privileged. The kickbacks are unbelievable.
Oooh, it's the Fall. Did a nanovirus slip through on his watch? Perhaps at the very start of the war, before people really knew what to expect.
you could re roll if it doesn't make sense
No, I'm liking this.
not that you have to
you just can if it doesn't fit with everything else
I am reading the roll for character creation area now
Sep 30, 2015 06:34
I was interning in the family business and made a bad call about software quarantine in the early days of the Fall.
What happens to me next?
3d10
Defined by your actions
Faction: 1 PP
Focus: 3 PP
Wow, my blunder was bad enough that I can't ride on the family name anymore.
There might not be a family anymore...
I think not.
However, I'm still rolling on the Exalted table for Factions.

Academics: (Xeno)Linguistics

Now the important bit: Focus.

Important to note, there are no bumpy head aliens. We've met sentient mold colonies, Factors. We've found remnants of something spider-like on some of the Exoplanets. Xenolinguistics is a tough field.
ARGONAUT
Scientific progress can be a two-edged sword. The fact that the argonauts embrace both the wonder and the dangers of new technologies and work towards their responsible use is one of the reasons you joined up.
Suggested Motivations: +Open Source, +Research, +Technoprogressivism

Well, you have joined the Argonauts, you are trying.
Sep 30, 2015 06:43
I'm using my gift with languages to serve as a jumped-up tourist guide for scientists, politicians, and businessmen visiting Argonaut installations from points distant.
I've studied enough chemistry that they'll let me near things which shouldn't be jostled vigorously, but otherwise--I'm still making it easier for important people to travel where and how they want.
I'm aggressively Service Industry material. Extrovert, remember?
Okay, I need three more packages to make up my PP quota.
True, true.
3d10
One Faction package, two Focus packages.
3d10
Sep 30, 2015 06:48
Rolling again on Techie, again on Elite, and getting a new Focus of...
d10
Spacer.
3d10
Techie: Hypercorp.
Elite: Hypercorp.
Spacer: Extropian.
Obviously these Argonauts are heavily funded by hypercorps.
But I think I'm supposed to re-roll if I get the same thing again, soo....
d10
Sep 30, 2015 06:50
1d10
Extropian: "You are an anarchistic supporter of the free market and private property. You oppose government and favor a system where security and legal matters are handled by private competitors. Whether you consider yourself an anarch-capitalist or a mutualist (a difference only other Extropians can figure out), you occupy a middle-ground between the hypercorps and autonomists, dealing with both yet trusted by neither.
Now I'm Extropian as an Elite, so re-rolling Spacer because I rolled Elite first.
d10
Brinker.
Sep 30, 2015 06:51
You spent some time with your brinker friend?
Apparently so.
Oh, maybe you have your own private tiny hab floating somewhere at a Venusian Lagrange point, where you go to hide from the world every now and then?
So, I need to roll Networking.
2d10
Scientists. Okay.
I guess my early training in Materials Science proved a useful fallback.
Now I'm a free-market scientist specialising in extreme materials, and I get most of my funding through networking with various hypercorps and such.
Man, this guy's all over the place.
What happens to him now?

Well, most of these are 1pp, so it's not the main carreer.
True. I'm still... what, an Escort, as my main profession?
[blink]
Maybe that's not "tourist guide" escort.
Hah. Maybe.
Goes with the Erotic Arts from before.
I thought of the other kind first...
So.
Sep 30, 2015 06:57
lol
It gets lonely out there.
@Magician @BESW So you're not only a hypercapitalist with a silver spoon, you're also against government regulation of... anything.
You are so the 0.01%
as well as a mix of the rest of the %
Yeah, extropian makes perfect sense for someone from that kind of money.
...and then, according to this Post-Fall Life Event table, I fall in love.
You find your one true love. You don’t feel like your full self when you are away from them. Gain the Intense Relationship trait (p. 90).
What kind of trashy romance novel does this guy LIVE in?
This is basically a transhuman romance novel- yes
Sep 30, 2015 07:01
Hahahahahha
"Oh, I'm an independently wealthy anarchist stripper scientist who has fallen in love with one of my clients!"
...your private hab in orbit is for that kind of privacy, eh.
Okay, let's throw some drama into this. Gatecrashing Event, go!
2d10
You serve on 1d10 missions and pick up some new skills. Replace a 1 PP Focus, Faction, or Customization package you acquired in Step 10 with the Explorer package at 1 PP (p. 32).
That is not exciting.
Sep 30, 2015 07:02
Roll again?
2d10
You go on 1d10 gatecrashing missions, with no major consequences. You do see some cool things, though. Gain +1 Moxie.
Noooo.
2d10
You step through a gate and arrive somewhere other than you expected. Your jaunt is adventurous, but you make it back safe. Gain +10 Profession: Gatecrashing skill.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PERSON.
You KILLED YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY WITH A CUSTOMS ERROR.
Sep 30, 2015 07:04
He has a tragic past which makes him brood sometimes.
WHY ARE YOU SO COMPETENT AT HORRIFIC SPACE THINGS.
Adventurous, huh.
2d10
You receive some focused training in gate operations. Gain the Programming (Gate Interface) specialization (p. 142, Gatecrashing).
Sep 30, 2015 07:04
Goodness gracious.
2d10
@BESW Apply that to the firewall event
@Magician Someone you are close to is a Firewall proxy; they brought you in to help them out. Gain +1 Moxie.
Your true love?
Sep 30, 2015 07:05
The love interest?
Heh.
Obviously my lover is a super-spy.
you might not want everyone to be the same person though
I mean why wouldn't they be?
So we start with trashy romance novel. There is a kinky asteroid. Then, suddenly, superspy.
> Hi, I'm an independently wealthy anarchist scientist with a kinky sex satellite orbiting Venus. I killed my entire family with a customs error when I was 16, and sometimes I brood about that. Recently I gave up escorting when I fell in love with one of my clients, who turns out to be a super-spy and now she wants me to help her secret organisation fight space zombies!

Sep 30, 2015 07:09
Perfect.
Not going to lie, I'd probably give that story a chance.
I probably still make model spaceships, too.
Your other great love.
Also I somehow think that my scientific research is into re-purposing sex toy materials for space-flight applications.
One last story event? Or is the character complete as is?
Sep 30, 2015 07:11
2d10
You participate as a test subject in a research project. You suffer no ill effects … that you can tell.
...kinky
@BESW "How did you figure out that this stuff was aerodynamic?" "Oh... funny story, that..."
