'alo :o
hey
I just skimmed the transcript from last night and saw you mention you were trying to find punk bands that can actually sing
I can probably give you a few to try listening to if you want
Haha, sure, that'd be great!
I don't listen to as much punk as I used to, so a lot of them are kind of older, but that's the style I generally like too, I don't generally like singers that aren't "singing"
Right. And it's kind of hard to come across good quality punk music without straight up asking people. There's a loooot of crap out there.
So yeah, I tend to lean a bit more towards melodic.
Tsunami Bomb is one of my favorites, they didn't put out much before they broke out, but they're good, one of the rare female-vocalist punk bands

Oh hey female lead
Awesome

Another good song by them
I like this first song a lot, really good sound
that's a pretty bad quality version, but I tried a few other ones and they were all skipping, so best of the worst
Shame that they broke up
she has a great voice though, she's in a new band called The Action Design now, but I don't think I'd call them "punk"

Ah, gotcha
Ten Foot Pole is one of my favorites too, the quality of their songs/albums is kind of all over the place though
and their first two albums (Swill and Rev) have a different singer, so their sound is quite a bit different
Ah gotcha.
Yeah, I've heard of these guys from my b/f, he listens to them but I've never checked them out myself.
Don't think I've really heard of Millencolin before
What albums would you recommend starting with?
I always have this tendency to get overwhelmed if I see an artist has a big discography.
for Millencolin? I haven't listened to them much in a long time, I'm just looking through some of my old music from when I listened to this style more regularly
so I don't really know their newer ones, but Pennybridge Pioneers was good... 10 years ago

Haha gotcha
are these sorts of things the style that you were looking for?
or not quite?
Yeah, this stuff sounds good. :)
And ah cool, I've had Alkaline Trio recommended to me.
one thing you might want to try is getting ahold of some punk compilation albums, there are quite a few of them that come out regularly, then you can just skim through a bunch of different bands quickly

Hm, good idea.
I've been thinking about listening to the Misfits but the discography intimidates the hell out of me.
I've no idea where to start.
the Warped Tour compilations back around 2003/2004 have a lot of bands that I really like
and I don't really know The Misfits very well, so I can't help you there, sorry :b
Haha, no prob
if you like that last one, the Brand New song, only their first album (Your Favorite Weapon) is much like that one
their style changes a lot over their albums, I wouldn't consider them even close to punk any more
they're all really good, just not punk
Feb 8, 2011 18:43
Gotcha
So much music!
haha yeah, that's probably enough to give you lots of bands to look at
Thanks a bunch for the recommendations!
no problem, let me know if you ever want some more, or if any in particular stand out and I can try to think of similar ones
those were just ones that came to mind, there are probably a lot more if I actually looked around more carefully

Awesome, thanks. :)
