A: Structured Tag Cleanup Initiative Phase II

gnatcertification looks like a candidate for blacklisting burnination. It's a meta tag that can be without harm edited out of worthy questions, and it attracts a lot of bad ones. See Why do certification questions keep getting closed? As of now, this tag has about 40 28 regular questions, all close...

@Ixrec given that in April 2015 I proposed blacklisting, it is likely that back then this tag had much more questions than now. As of now it's indeed an easy target for burnination
Oh, yeah. I need to do more of that. I did a bit over my vacation.
there's a few locked questions with that tag left: programmers.stackexchange.com/…
I'm trying to stay in the habit of spending my close and delete votes every day, which given what I see in the queues is probably helping whoever is doing proper cleanups
I have revoked all of your .

@ThomasOwens all locked ones are gone indeed, thanks! there are 26 regular questions in there still - 10Kers have some votes to cast (I think I have edited tag out of all the questions that semed worth keeping, it turned out surprisingly easy)
@gnat Oh. I misread - thought they were all gone. I'll take a look soonish.
conveniently, I haven't spent my delete votes yet
@ThomasOwens if you delete them, I won't mind (I cast VtDs on all of them)
and I'm getting a lot of "You have already voted to delete this post"
even more conveniently, my delete vote quota might increment today if this thing keeps getting too many upvotes
There are three that I'm having trouble deleting.
First up:

Q: Can Software Engineers become certified Professional Engineers (PE)?

AndHeCodedItDoes anyone know if a Software Engineer can become a certified Professional Engineer or PE for short? I know that my buddies who are Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineers were able to become PEs by taking an exam. Does such an exam exist in Software Engineering?

Second up:

Q: Would licensing software engineers increase skill and salary levels?

Todd MosesWhen I apply for jobs I have to compete with too many other software engineers who have little or no skill and dilute the candidate pool. I feel it devalues our profession and ultimately pushes down salary levels for all practicing software engineers. I feel my career, and that of other skilled ...

Oh. I guess it is only two. Anyway...I'm not sure that those should be deleted.

@ThomasOwens retag and h/l?
I'm not sure I see why these are better than other certification questions
@gnat Maybe the second one. I'm not sure if the first one can even be justified as being closed.
@Ixrec Because they last longer.
I guess I can see that argument for the second one, but the first one's accepted answer is the sort of thing that could change at any time, isn't it?
The problem with many of the certification questions was that they were either primarily opinion based (should I get certification X?) or time-sensitive (about a particular test that changes).
@Ixrec You mean mine? I suppose they could decide to stop offering it. But that doesn't happen often.
that and they tend to be about career development
@ThomasOwens well, they're both yours

And it probably won't, since in Texas and Florida, you need to pass that exam to call yourself an engineer.
@ThomasOwens first one can certainly drop certification tag without any harm. As for its fate, I don't have strong opinion on it yet, need to take a closer look
I'm just editing up my answer. It isn't a certification, though, so yeah, the tag can go.
@ThomasOwens to me cleanup became much easier after I figured that it's much of meta tag - maybe not precisely so, but all worthy questions can go without it :)
