do you guys use a vm to test the bugs related here in AU?
@ObsessiveFOSS not here.
@LnxSlck No... Good idea...
@ObsessiveFOSS i'd have to test at home.
@LordofTime Still under lockdown?
@ObsessiveFOSS i dont have admin anywhere, i couldnt set up torrents even if i wanted to.
and even if i did have admin, torrents and P2P are locked down all the time
so's Skype

@ObsessiveFOSS, i do this because i don't want to mess my ubuntu installation, and that way i can install software, remove, whatever
@LordofTime Ah.
@LnxSlck there has been talk about getting cloud VMs set up. i think each user does it their own way. personally i don't "test" AU bugs, i just vtc as off-topic
cloud VM? hummmm
that's not such a bad idea
it also depends on the level of commitment of each user
Who will provide a cloud?
yeah, but unity3d bugs would require an opengl capable vm which is more expensive... on the other hand, we are touted as first tier support in the installer. maybe it will evolve in such a way that canonical provides such a thing for some active users
@ObsessiveFOSS amazon s3

@aking1012 I do hope so. Maybe a message from the community?
@ObsessiveFOSS amazon xD

Q: Can the Hdd script a made destroy the hdd?

user82114I started to optimize my ubuntu to be less energy consumming. My current latest desktop, does have 2 x ssd crucial 512 GB and 2 WD 2002 caviars 2 TB. My boot disk is an ssd the second just used as alternatif for experimental purpose (it will become raid in future mirror not for the moment) I'm ru...

I hope Canonical will support this...
@ObsessiveFOSS start a commentable blog on tumblr and ask for support
@izx *NARQ! PURGE THE NARQ!*
or Not Constructive

@LordofTime why did that sound a lot like kill it with fire
@aking1012 and anyone intersted: I can give write access to the blog..
I would just make it comment-able. I don't see a large reason to make it deface-able and you never know who to trust
support what now?

@aking1012 because that was the intent...?

@JorgeCastro make sense or i'm just pie-in-the-skying it?

Look, if you want to test out Unity 3D bugs a VMware/vbox vm is not rocket science...
provides 3d support in virtualized environments?
lot easier said than done

VMware does, for sure....
just because of the scale of implementation you're looking at
in a sense, a server farm would need to house the VMs.
Aug 8, 2012 17:24
@izx that's fair, but having a standard testing environment for all of AU is surely simpler than having each individual users install VMs. I know it takes me a couple hours to set up a ton of VMs for different things
because of the sheer amount of poiwer you'd need both RAM and CPU-wise
@aking1012 But AU isnt under Canonical
nor is it under the Community Council
nor any other governance council of Ubuntu
fair point. i think it's a grey area
Better idea: AU distributes pre-built VM images...
@ObsessiveFOSS that could work
@aking1012 since its not Canonical run... we'd have to front the mothly costs to run the infrastructure
its easier to distribute either customized installation images
Aug 8, 2012 17:25
ohh, test platforms for questions... sounds cool
or base VM images
izx
izx
Couple of hours? I just have a base stable snapshot and then snapshot/reset as needed for most AU questions....
as @Obsessive stated
i'ld be much more likely to download an .ova than i would be to install a base machine over and over again
