Back to Ubuntu, does anyone know of a Synergy alternative that works on Ubuntu and Windows?
Synergy doesn't have support for local multiple monitors.
You answered my first question before I asked it, why do you need an alternative. My next question is, would it be acceptable to run a docker or LXC instance with a full-on GUI environment for each monitor? That wouldn't fix the problem with synergy, but it would make it usable.
I don't now what that is

Okay, then I still don't know of an alternative. I was trying to find a way to work around the problem that would work for me.
Anything that will let me use other computers as virtual monitors that works on Win and Ubuntu is fine with me
it just needs to support multiple monitors on the local computer

What do you mean?
If I can run an app container or virtual machine that holds on to a second monitor all to itself, I might be able to have that monitor look to synergy like another machine. It would let me use all my screens without looking for another product.
Or instead of holding on to it, having a local only VNC or something connection, I could just full-screen the VM/container's desktop on to the multiscreen hosts monitor. It would feel like having another screen mostly.
That's not a bad idea. I might look into it. Would you be willing to comment it on my question?
