@hexafraction hello
@hexafraction either you're confused about which device is which, or the driver is. that's how i read it...
@hbdgaf No, both devices are hard-blocked, and one should not be.
@hexafraction did that happen in 13.10?

@Braiam This machine is getting Ubuntu for the first time. No other machine I've used had such a setup
and in the live environment?
This is the live environment. I'd like to ensure everything works before I install.
yeah, i was seeing rfkill only thinking one was hard-blocked. if you're saying it doesn't look hardblocked, but it is, then the second half of the either or kicks in...
I'm sure of the driver. I've used rtl8187 with it on Backtrack.
i'ld just unblock the hardblock and use things as normal. forget the whole "it's too inconvenient to press a button" bit.
also, long time no see obssessivefoss
ever finish the arm wrestling thing?

This card has no hard-block. The other one does. That one is not usable at my school's grounds due to crap signal and hundreds of other users sharing the link
And unfortunately I abandoned it after I did more research into servo availability :P
I'll try wicd
Well. That sucks. And I was saying unblock both cards so you can use the one and only use the soft-blocking on the linux side.
@hexafraction rfkill unblock all FTW!
I'm just not sure why hard-blocking one would hard-block an unrelated one...
and wicd is dead
Actually wicd is the only non-dead thing, it seems to be working.

@hexafraction Because maybe the driver is confused... see my very first stab at it. It shouldn't fix it, but it might.
The drivers? Two different cards. I'll try it.
Hmm, I guess wicd has worked. I'll use that, then.
And the final test, pulling the ethernet I;ve been using as an interim
derp. it wasn't hardblocked if wicd used it...
network-manager decided it was, rfkill decided it was...
 Latest version is 1.7.2.4
    wicd-1.7.2.4.tar.gz
released on 2012-04-30
no it didn't. can't say on nm, but rfkill said CLEARLY that one of two was hardblocked...
Apr 20, 2014 23:49
I guess that works. I'll leave the question up to see if it can be better addressed.
Hmm, let me look at the 15 times I've invoked rfkill...
Not even sure then. I remember it reporting it having both hardblocked at one time...
I guess too localized then.
Yes, I know I pasted that in, I'm 100% sure they both were hard-blocked.
