`ssh-keygen -t rsa` tells me
*Your identification has been saved in filename.
Your public key has been saved in filename.pub.*
but nothing is actually saved anywhere. What could be wrong?
where did you checked?
It saved in .ssh folder in your home directory
/home/majid/.ssh/
Yes, I checked there.
check whether you are running it from another account
I also tried sudo ... still no file.
sudo will not do the job
do you have other accounts?

no, just one.
did you open the folder with nautilus?
but this might be related: I'm using xubuntu
no, i just opened it with the default file manager
but show hidden files is selected.
Here is the output from my system
Enter file in which to save the key (/home/anwar/.ssh/id_rsa):
did you enter other names here or just pressed enter
i entered majidkey as the name.
i tried both with and without a passphrase
In that case it is in your HOME directory
I just seen it
I entered abcd only

so it is in /home/ ?
and there is two file in the current directory named abcd and abcd.pub
@MajidFouladpour sorry, in the current wording directory of terminal
So, if you are in your home, it is in /home/majid
ah! yes i found it! thanks!
or as per your user name
I think, the abcd is the private key and abcd.pub is public key
Glad to help!
@MajidFouladpour you are welcome
thumbs up - you really helped me.
