George had a fun time this Halloween.
I dressed up as a #PHP programmer this year. I think I frightened a few people. Ended up with a lot of candy tho. https://t.co/4FCQPsTZCq
@NathanOsman I dressed up as a Ruby programmer. Everyone I saw died of fright.
Shhhhh! Don't tell @jrg.
He's a mod - he can see message history >:)
i'll just ban myself from this room now
Relax, I'm sure everyone sees the humor in it.
Though it would have been funnier if you dressed up as an Oracle employee or something.
i tried dressing up as an Oracle employee.
I got egged because I ruined MySQL and Java.
Nov 1, 2015 06:03
Well, Java was arguably already ruined :P
java > C++
^--- wrong
^--- wrong
^--- wronger
i'm sorry, I can't hear you over my cross-platform compatibility
Nov 1, 2015 06:05
Java?
Spits out teeth.
and it's dental abilities
I can't hear you over the noise of the zero-day vulnerabilities in the JVM.
oh, when did we start talking about flash?
.........
i hate you.
Oh hang on.
I have a funny picture for that.
At least our devs fix things.

^--- Flash calendar
wait, were you saying something about flash? I can't hear you over the one billion devices using Java
also, useful debugging is awesome
Those devices also universally run compiled C++ applications, so...
You're just jealous because we have prettier syntax.
Absolutely not.
only TeX is prettier

int main(){return 0;}
^--- valid C++ application
Let's see the shortest Java sample.
Then tell me which is more verbose.
take my empty source file.
0 bytes.
ಠ_ಠ
Does javac actually accept an empty file?
Well, okay. Fair enough.
I feel like this would have been a better battle if we pitted Java against Go.
:P
tabs AND spaces
Nov 1, 2015 06:14
What?
doesn't go need tabs?
Go is unique in that it dictates a formatting style. It's exclusively tabs.
In most editors set up for Go, as soon as you save the file, it reformats your code.
java: "lol format it however, idgaf"
Inconsistency :P
At least with Go, there's no runtime.
Just a single executable. No dependencies. None.
now now. Let's remember that one language beats all others.
Nov 1, 2015 06:17
Perl?
Brainfuck.
Er, and that beats others how exactly?
Such a simple language
Only eight easily-memorizable commands
But does it butter my toast for me?
With enough bytes, yes.
You can do anything in any programming language. It just depends how much work you want to do.

I guess it's turing complete.
