@MarcoCeppi why does it annoy you ?
@Alaukik It's more of a nitpicking move than anything else
The GNU/Linux naming controversy is a dispute among members of the free and open source software community over how to refer to the computer operating system commonly called Linux. GNU/Linux is a term promoted by the Free Software Foundation (FSF), its founder Richard Stallman, and its supporters, for operating systems that include GNU software and the Linux kernel. History Plans for the GNU operating system were made in 1983 by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation. In September of that year, Stallman published a manifesto in Dr. Dobb's Journal detailing his new pr...
There isn't a solid naming convention - so enforcing a rule either way is impractical
This is similar to the dispute that happened within local SE-sphere
Unix & Linux vs Ubuntu Stack Exchange sites
I don't really get the point
we call the kernel "linux"
and the OS is "ubuntu"
In the end if the author of a post uses "GNU/Linux" to describe something, then that's fine. If they use the term "Linux" to describe the same thing that's fine to. It really isn't something we should enforce either way.
i am not saying to enforce anything .
i am just saying that we should be able to replace linux with GNU/Linux
@Alaukik But why? I fail to see the argument for - since most of the time the term "Linux" is being used to describe the kernel - which isn't "GNU/Linux"
Like @JorgeCastro said, Ubuntu is the "GNU/Linux" OS - so it would be like saying "Everywhere there is Ubuntu, replace with Ubuntu GNU/Linux"

@MarcoCeppi i am not saying we replace those instances but instances like "linux app for doing xyz"
@Alaukik that question is off-topic, it should say Ubuntu app for doing xyz or go to Unix & Linux if they're looking for a non-Ubuntu "Generic" solution
@MarcoCeppi but none of them are closed
@Alaukik They need to be flagged then, and either fixed to represent a proper scope - or migrated to the appropriate site

Q: Paint.NET altenative on Linux

jumpnettDoes anyone know of a simple Image Editor, with functionality comparable to Paint.NET, for Linux? I've always found GIMP to be overkill and too complicated for what I want to do.

so should this be closed or renamed to ubuntu or GNU/Linux ?
Ubuntu
