I'm going to use this to make an empty package in the meantime. I just realised that I actually have a bunch of files that spew out a proper .deb when you run "debuild -c -us -uc -tc" (which is thanks to ajmitch and mark tully)
I think I would start writing my own Unity lens.

A: Create my own unity lens

jokerdinoMichael Hall has written a python library simplifying Unity lens development. You can browse the source code of the bazaar branch online or get a copy of the branch using the command: bzr branch lp:singlet Useful link: http://mhall119.com/2012/01/simplified-unity-lens-development-with-singlet/

@jokerdino if you want to write your own lens, using the code from the AskUbuntu lens is a great way to start
just remove everything that looks vaguely related to AU, and you have a barebones lens that you can make into anything you like
That would be a good way.
I just need the code for that :D
to get the code, you can run this:
BTW, when is the data dump coming?

bzr checkout lp:askubuntu-lens
then "cd askubuntu-lens/" and "debuild -c -us -uc -tc" to make your own .deb file. just go through all of the files first and change names and paths according to your code
ssh: connect to host bazaar.launchpad.net port 22: Connection refused
bzr: ERROR: Connection closed: Unexpected end of message. Please check connectivity and permissions, and report a bug if problems persist.
you might need to add your launchpad account to bzr, and set up pgp and ssh keys in launchpad

@jokerdino have a ssh key registered with LP?
are the ssh and pgp keys on your LP account current (i.e. stored on your computer)?
the ssh key should be at .ssh/id_rsa.pub
telling bzr about your launchpad account works like this:
bzr launchpad-login bob
Jan 4, 2012 15:37
jokerdino@jokerdino-laptop:~/.ssh$ ls
id_rsa id_rsa.pub known_hosts
Unable to copy ownership from "/home/jokerdino/.bazaar" to "/home/jokerdino/.bazaar/bazaar.conf". You may want to set it manually.
Booo
Now, this is getting more complicated.
you can cat .ssh/id_rsa.pub and check that it matches this: launchpad.net/~jokerdino/+sshkeys
if it doesn't, just set up a new key (much easier)
jrg
jrg
ssh keys are a dime a dozen, compared to pgp keys
The ssh keys match.
uh, hang on
May be I would just log out and login. Hang on
Jan 4, 2012 15:40
it says "connection refused"
jrg
jrg
is really glad his pgp key expires a week-ish before 12.04 release
wait.
so is launchpad down?
I just checked out the code
maybe a firewall blocking outgoing connections on port 22 or something? do you use ssh normally?
May be there is a network firewall.
And I have never used ssh
Was it Ground control?
I tried setting it up yesterday and left it half way.
I vaguely remember that. I think it extends Nautilus
so that you have buttons for bzr actions on repositories.
Yeah, it asked me to restart Nautilus.

it wouldn't surprise me if the switch to gnome3 broke ground control for the latest version of ubuntu
It probably did. Because I never got ground control to work
well, there was an update a few days ago
I just purged ground control and bzr still doesn't work. :(
