Q: Remove unwanted downvotes

Arun SudhakaranI've come across some posts in StackOverflow, both questions and answers which has been down voted without any comments, but answer may be ok or good. This one example Sometimes I've seen somebody down voting all the answers to a question like a serial down voter. So I found this link Should ...

To remove unwanted downvotes, you should write a meta post so the unwanted downvotes are attracted to you.
Man, what a sacrifice
Bows

IDK, what prevents the op from upvoting to 'remove unwanted downvotes'?
@JarkoDubbeldam Sure hope they don't do that
The only thing I hate more than sympathy upvotes is banana flavor that tastes like toothpaste
@M.A.R. why not? If they don't agree with the fact that the post is downvote worthy, ergo, they think it's upvote worthy, they are 100% in their right to upvote
that's something different than upvoting any downvoted post btw
but they are votes, that doesn't mean that new voters should agree with the existing majority
@JarkoDubbeldam well, yeah, but the intentions are usually "oh man, this poor guy is now a hobo on SO street because of the downvotes" not "I disagree that this post is poor"
The people with the latter intention are unlikely to use it against really poor posts, and they have the minimum understanding of how votes work

"not sure why this post was downvoted, +1" is something I see quite a bit
and I've seen some high rep users go ham about that in comments
@JarkoDubbeldam Rare compared to sympathy upvotes
But I guess we can't make sure in any way. Sympathy upvotes usually go uncommented
The ones that don't are accompanied by the most ridiculous comments in the universe: "YEAH MAN, I IZ STEELERS FAN. STEELERS HATERS @#$$@#"
so this kind of leads to the question: theoretically, should I vote on every single post I see?
Is a post either upvote worthy or downvote worthy?
@JarkoDubbeldam Thankfully, we agreed that I make sense. I was doubting you for a second. :P

or is it up/down/no vote?
@M.A.R. I don't disagree with you, but I think the community goes a bit ham on what looks like legit upvotes but are interpreted as sympathy upvotes
The latter if you're a normal, sensible voter. The former if it's a badge hunt
@M.A.R. but if you want the community vetting posts, wouldn't you want every post voted on?
@JarkoDubbeldam There's that feeling with the new voters, regardless of the post score, that goes like "I don't see why I shouldn't upvote this." It's like being charitable for no good reason.
And they don't rationalize their votes
And yeah, those are sometimes mistakes for sympathy UV
@JarkoDubbeldam The community doesn't consist of one or few voters. In the random world we live in, someone would have a stronger opinion about the post than I do.
What we want the ideal site to be is for that person to land on that post.
@M.A.R. true, which kinda leads to the bias that users upvote more easily than downvote
so what I am leading to is this
Are we a bunch of Sith dealing with absolutes?
Whoa, you were leading to something? I feel lost already

Does a post that you don't think is worth its downvotes, by definition warrant an upvote?
No.
If I like a movie, I shouldn't try to trump the opinion of people that don't.
Which is exactly what people don't get about critics' review, and reviewing critics' review
So it's their right to downvote it, and I can protest to that, but not in the form of feedback that'd be different otherwise, but by leaving comments no one reads
That's what so jerky about that critic that gave a rotten to Lady Bird just to see 100 percent go to 99.
But who are we kidding, people still do stuff like that anyway
Stupid humans. Skynet, yo, Skynet, I thought robots were punctual
