I had a girlfriend once for 12 hours in 3rd grade
For years we hated each other, and one day when I was getting kinda tired of chasing her with a stick we both just plopped down in the shade and I was like "do you play Minecraft" and she was like "yeah" and it was the start of a long friendship
Then in 3rd grade we realized we both liked each other, but the next morning on the school bus she said she thought the relationship was moving too quickly :(
Yeah after school daycare had some complicated social dynamics
I also led a paramilitary organization called the NPA, we'd march around in formation
Like I'd literally round up the other three members and have them sign pieces of paper and practice formations
We had a command structure with 26 ranks
No clue why we had that many
I was the top rank and everyone else was the bottom one
This lasted for years and we had l o r e
We worked for an omnipotent being known as "MN" who was god of an alternate dimension where Harry Potter canon existed, I was 5th in command of the ministry of magic and that was how the NPA fit in
I somehow had already discovered Stack Overflow during the later part of this organization's existence, and created numerous complex points systems to reward my loyal followers
They could cash them in for things like some Minecraft stickers I had, custom guides on our organization and its activities, or most prestigious and expensive, r e a l e s t a t e
I'd mark out a rectangle in the gravel which no other members would be allowed to enter without permission, and we'd have a collective duty to keep others out
Hang on I think I still have some of the "paperwork"
Okay I found "Dark vs. Darker [what a title]: A guide to the destruction of Voldemort"
Oops missed a word, "a spellbook to guide the destruction of Voldemort"
Here's the table of contents
March of 2016, and apparently after I'd started coding based on the term "spell syntax"
The "ministry of magic hall of fame" contains a mix of me and my friends, several stuffed animals of mine, and harry potter characters
Hang on lemme find the really classified booklet
I swear some of this stuff feels like yesterday
Okay the really classified booklet has my friends' real names in it so I'm not going to share it
It's also written in the tiniest handwriting imaginable
okay wow reading the names of my old friends is kinda sad
I emailed back and forth a bit with some of them in middle school, but I feel like it'd be kind of weird to do at this point
Oh I just realized that girl I was talking about is going to be going off to college...she was a year older than me
Wow, time flies
I'm not overly nostalgic for back then tho...I was incredibly emotionally immature and had bad anger issues and stuff and was just generally kind of a dick to anyone and everyone, including my friends. Not sure what happened, guess I just grew out of it
Ooh I found the land prices!
They use Harry Potter currency tho
Okay here they are:
Okay wait no this isn't HP currency either...
Farm: 5B
Office: 1P
Personal: 2G
Waste: 1B
Base: 2P
Public: 2G
Private: 4P
...you could also buy breaks. I made them pay for break time lol
Oh okay wow there's a whole currency system documented here
You can buy meetings (amogus), "trains" (???), stamps for official documents, rank increases, gift points to others, and awards
20B = 1P, 40B = 1G, 2P = 1G, $1 = 10G
Gotta love how a 1 hour break costs more than a full day one by a factor of three, and a 1 min break costs more than a 1 hour break by 4P
Jun 19, 2023 04:57
break from what though?
Meetings, patrols, training, team-building, etc.
I ran a tight ship
how many members?
Looking back I may not have led a normal or healthy childhood
@lyxal Varied, typically 3-6 including me
Started when I was like 5 with me and a friend, went on about five years over numerous variations
it's a wonder you didn't have any attempted mutinies/leadership spills/hostile takeovers/revolutions
OHHHH the "trains" are training not actual trains dfsjlkafjl;f
Jun 19, 2023 05:00
wait I need to pay to have a court session?
@lyxal Oh there were plenty
@lyxal yep, a modest $0.05 equivalent
and so what was decided in court sessions?
No clue. We never had any that I remember. Probably property disputes.
and so who was in charge of money distribution?
Gotta love how the code word "black" is short for "code red" while the code word red is short for "!!!" while "code black" is also its own thing
@lyxal I kept tally of it
Jun 19, 2023 05:02
ah nuts
Later on I designed a TI-83 app to keep track of it, but that was in the final days of the org
so it would have been hard to counterfeit or launder funds :p
I promised 25G to one of the members if she could figure out how to fly like a bird by flapping her arms really fast
She was really confident in herself
It'd be interesting to do a study on what life factors make some people playground dictators and others classroom social media magnates :p
or casino operators
(tbh I think I just wanted to control people)
Also gotta love this totally legit signature:
How convenient that I and Harry Potter have the same cursive :p
Jun 19, 2023 05:07
0% corruption possibility here :p
also wow cursive were you forced to learn that too?
isn't that like the only thing that happens in early grade school aside from basic arithmetic
We learned it in 3rd grade for a few weeks
wacky
i feel like it was a mainstay of like 1st grade for me
Having a short name is usually nice, but for signatures it sucks
My signature is so tiny
@UnrelatedString I think it was a thing for 1st grade too
Jun 19, 2023 05:09
@RydwolfPrograms ikr
also speaking of cursive, who here ever got their pen licence?
and neither of our names even have anything wacky to, like, stretch out
their what???
is that just an australian thing
pen licence
I got a LegoLand Driver's License which sounds cooler
@UnrelatedString probably just a school-i-went-to-thing
you couldn't use pen unless you had onoe
*one
Jun 19, 2023 05:10
lmao what
that's amazing
yeah you had to stick to pencil
obviously that mean frick all in high school and outside of that school
At some point this summer I want to used a flatbed scanner to preserve all of my old papers, the pencil is slowly fading
so guess who here is using pens illegally :p

I've got a to-scale graph paper blueprint of a spy bunker from 5th grade that's amazing
@lyxal you got it for having good handwriting
It would've been so homey
So it's below a store right
The store is classed as security level 0, out of a scale going up to 5, meaning it's entirely public and unsuspicious
Then there's the back room, security level 1, where only trusted employees can work
There's a hidden elevator, security level 2, only I and the other two spy bunker occupants can know about it
Which leads to the living quarters of the bunker, which are also SL2
oh hell no I just remembered that I was into making newsletters/newspapers (one-off occurrences of course) for a few years on and off
There are three offices along the right wall, a living room/snack bar (kitcchens are for old people amiright) on the left, and also to the left along the back wall were three bedrooms
On the right opposite the bedrooms was a bathroom, and the stubby little hallway between the rightmost bedroom and the bathroom had a big painting at the end
If you opened the painting secret door, you entered SL3 to your right, a big open space full of command consoles for weapons and spy gear
Jun 19, 2023 05:15
@lyxal if i was at your school they would have banned me from pencil use too
On your left is SL4, which consists of a giant library, and SL5, a laboratory
I was and kinda still am obsessed with homes
Not houses, homes
Especially hidden ones
Ones which are way bigger on the inside than the outside
oh hell no I found my google doc files from when we did group tasks in high school
I had some very, well, interesting names to say the least for the documents
Like bunkers. Or the tent in Harry Potter which had a whole house inside. Or TNB from the SE Nitro novelization, which is like a giant hotel except we can live there.
Around the same time as the spy bunker I designed a bunker which would be accessed from a storm grate, which was a sort of like...idk, club for kids. It would open at night; you'd sneak out of your house and enter a network of storm grate tunnels, and reach it
It had a complex network of security devices, including water balloon launchers in the ceiling
I like how transparently I can psychoanalyze all the weird shit I did in elementary school, 90% of which traces back to my not really liking my parents
And feeling like I lacked independence or control

Some great titles include:

- Epstein Didn't Kill Himself and other interesting components of English
- Susteamability
- They were all in bread
- Tim's line
- Zionism 👏 Review 👏
Anyway, it's late and I should probably stop infodumping an entire five year span of my life, o/
Found a document titled "<(.,.)> xX_Dabs_Xx"
Good times
These documents were all serious documents for group class tasks btw
Let's just say I did a fair bit of google docs trolling

@RydwolfPrograms I love this. I did similar stuff as a kid, but I don't think I involved anyone else in it (except my imaginary siblings). I did have friends, we just did other stuff when we played together.
My bedroom's decor has always included piles of paper (on the floor, desk, etc.). The piles are smaller at the moment, but I still have 'em.
@RydwolfPrograms Looking back, this was probably true for me as well, but I mostly took it out on my imaginary siblings rather than real people.
Jun 19, 2023 06:23
i think this is the first time i've heard of imaginary siblings but now i'm surprised i've never heard of them before
@DLosc only child?
Yup
Jun 19, 2023 06:48
Canonically, I had something like 100 imaginary siblings, but I only came up with names for six to ten of them, and there were basically three who had any kind of developed personality. (And they were still pretty one-note personalities, at that.)
Rival-who-was-a-boy, rival-who-was-a-girl, and loyal-sidekick
Jun 19, 2023 07:19
@DLosc when you say imaginary, do you mean actually visible to you or just different brain partitions?
(by different brain partitions, I mean like being able to put other brain states "on hold" so to speak so you can play multi player board games by yourself)
Looking back at it now, how the hell did I actually manage to do that? Like keep track of 4 different game states without them overlapping
Like being able to play poker and not just make decisions based on the fact I technically knew all the hands
The only child grind is real :p
But nowadays I feel like I'd get bored of it really quickly
Like I wouldn't be able to achieve that separation again I don't think
It's probably something that faded away over time
