We left our heroes in the SECO parking lot, returning to headquarters after visiting the library. They have a tip from Oakwinkle on a certain gnome archmage to visit about tracking Plane-Gazer energies, and have just been approached by Joan.

"The way that man uses technology is as baffling and horrifying as ever," comes Joan's voice from behind you, in real life this time. She has just emerged out of her robin-egg-blue Mini Cooper, complete with her usual aviator jacket and sunglasses, and is meandering up to you with her hands jammed in her pockets. "Nice to see you two around. What's got you both on the ground?"
"Hey, Joan. There's... quite the ordeal on our hands right now."
Lewis starts to explain the incident at the abandoned train station, the kenkus, the book, and the Gesta from Oakwinkle
"Basically we're dealing with books who may be a vessel into the minds of literal gods far beyond we could even imagine. This could be really serious in disrupting our world."
"they also turn people like crazy if you're around them too much, hence the missing kenku"
"We're trying to find a gnomic archmage who specializes in plane-gazers and their energies, she apparently works at the Magical History Museum. I came back though to file an incident report and take the info to SECO to know just how serious this could be."
Lewis shivered. "The kenku mentione about some like... I don't know, people? Things? That came out of a literal fire portal."
"Anyone have any luck deciphering the Inferni?"
Joan listens attentively to the whole story, spinning her SECO identification lanyard idly on her finger. "Hm. Well, that sounds like a hell of a day. Definitely a real high-profile job. This one's got danger written all over it." She takes off her sunglasses and tucks them into her pocket. "Maude sent out some Delta Team agents to search around when she saw your texts, and Piers should be back any minute - we'll have to take this one to the supervisor for sure. Might be above our heads."
"Yeah. We gotta track that book down though."
Oct 24, 2021 22:09
"Maude's team should be on that. You can ask to join up with the Delta squad if you want, though. I think you've got everyone real worried about a Class-X scenario." Joan starts briskly walking for the entrance. "We might have a real problem on our hands. Class C Exposure Event, even."
Lewis follows quick behind. "If delta team is on it, that's fine, I might do my own research on plane-gazers then."
"This is definitely a potential class C exposure event."
"Sounds like you have a lead, if you've got a plane-gazer specialist lined up. You let me and Maude worry about the damage." Joan kicks open the door with her foot and holds it open. "Some other agents around town have been reporting graffiti in strange places. If some mortal touches one the wrong way, or gets suspicious..."
Lewis rubs his head. "Let's not worry about that."
"We don't know what we're up against, that's all I'm saying. We don't want another Jayde Grail on our hands." Joan stares. "You remember."
Lewis just frowns and doesn't say anything.

"What's that look for?" Joan looks at Hanako. "I can never read him, can you?"
"hah. how could i?"
"in any case, he tends to sulk a bit when struggling to think of a plan, eh lewis?"
"Figures. Hey, I grabbed you something while I was out on the pavement earlier." Joan rummages in her pocket and emerges with a small silver fox keychain, holding it out to Hanako. "Some bird fellow in Charity Plaza sells little knick-knacks like these. It reminded me of you."
"oh my gosh!! thats so sweet of you, thank you!"
"youre the best joan. im gonna keep this with me always!"
"Sorry, it's just Jayde Grail was... a lot."

"Glad you like it. Keep your chin up, Lewis, you're a good man." Joan sweeps inside the lobby and heads for the elevators. "I've got to see a lady about a ghost, so you folks get your butts over Incident Reporting and I'll see you on the flip side, all right?"
Lewis gives Joan a thumbs up
Joan gives you a Fonzi finger gun as the elevator closes on her.
The receptionist returns from her smoke break and plops down in her chair by the entrance with an annoyed huff.
"We have an incident report to file?"
The receptionist blinks at you owlishly. "Hm?"
"Oh, nevermind."
Lewis walks over to Hanako. "Do you remember where we file an incident report?"
Oct 24, 2021 22:27
"i have no idea. you always take care of the paperwork and procedure-y stuff"
(what do I roll to remember?)
(or to figure out?)
(History or just a plain Int check works)
"Let me know if you need anything, Ms. Hanako and Mr. Laurent," the receptionist says mildly, and returns to playing Animal Crossing under her desk.
Lewis grins and frowns at the same, annoyed that she's playing at work but amused that she's playing Animall Crossing
8+3=11
(gotta go, brb)
You remember vaguely that the last time you filed an official Incident Report, it was on floor 3 in one of the rooms on the left.
The receptionist is deeply focused on organizing her town and is ignoring probably-important email popups on her computer screen.
(back)
Lewis shakes his head and turns to Hanako. "Third floor. I remember now."
Oct 24, 2021 22:40
"ah. ill keep that in mind for the future"
Lewis enters the elevator with Hanako and punches the number up
Some jazzy elevator music begins playing and the elevator whooooms upward.
Lewis taps his foot as the elevator opens and quickly turns left.
"Incident report... incident report." He looks around
15+2(perception)=17
The third floor is a small, blue-carpeted hallway lined with offices and reporting rooms. The "Incident Report" office nameplate is mounted next to the second door on the left, and you can see a very sleepy-looking intern sitting at the receiving desk inside, slowly sifting through paperwork.
Lewis steps in and curtly greets the intern.

The intern drowsily looks up and rubs his eyes. "Oh. Hi. Sorry - whatcha need?" Some kind of mage hand floats into view and hovers ready by his shoulder.
"Just filing an incident report."
"Form 17B-88," the intern says groggily to the hand, and it dutifully zooms into the back and returns with a few sheafs of paper. It deposits them politely on the desk and staples them together, and fetches you a pen.
"Wait." The intern rubs his eyes again. "Hey. What kind of incident is this?"
"Potential Class-C exposure event with a potential Class-X artifact on the loose."
"On-going. Could be dangerous." Lewis starts scribbling quickly
The intern's mouth drops open. The hand, which was hovering politely waiting for the next command, poofs out of existence.
"Class-C... Class-X? You serious?" The intern sits up from his slump. "This real?"
Lewis gives a sympathetic smile. "I would share more, but I don't think you have the clearance for more information."
"I will need to hand this to my superiors directly."
Oct 24, 2021 22:51
"Wow." The intern stares reverently between the two of you. "You must be real important."
"Eh, not really. We're just field agents."
He looks at Hanako. "Kitsune here thinks so though."
"WE FIGHT DEMONS"
"I hope I get to be a field agent someday," the intern mumbles, clearly starstruck.
"and occasionally break traffic laws"
Lewis chuckles. "If you like dying, sure. You already know how to use magic though, so that's better than most of the agents here, including myself."
"Lewis wraps up his report and stuffs it into a yellow folder on the side. "Your name?"
Oct 24, 2021 22:53
"It's just a little mage hand thingy my mom taught me," the intern murmurs, sheepishly. "You guys are so cool."
He straightens up. "My name is Isaiah, sir."
"Nice to meet you. Your mother is a wizard?"
"Something like that, yeah. She's a diplomat for the West African Annex of Wizardry." He smiles modestly. "I'm working my way up the intelligence ladder to be a diplomat, too."
"Good work. Keep it up."
Lewis waves and looks at Hanako.
"Thanks, sir," he says, and rubs his eyes again. "I needed that today."
"you doing awesome dude! i look forward to the day you'll be on field work with us!" hanako says and smiles at him
Oct 24, 2021 22:59
Lewis smiles gently and leaves the room.
He grins like a dork. "Thanks."
Lewis leaves to go back downstairs to the receptionist
"of course" hanako says and follows lewis down
