"only about one-third of the population is online" when starving to death it probably comes in as a lower priority :-)
meh, India isn't that bad
While there's some income disparity between the richest and poorest, and the politicians are often completely rotten, saying that makes it sound like a failed state
Toss on that "clean water" , and Dial A condom, app and it might just solves the worlds problems
meh, Thats a pet peeve
Clean water, birth control and so on are things that arn't linked in anyway by access to information.
"Oh, its a poor country, they need to focus on fundamentals first"
vs "How can we actually give people access to education and information to make life better?"
Its such a typical former first world response to things
sure but we know this is some rich perons deal to discover untapped markets, and bleed them dry with crapily made devices that connect to thier corporate sales
provided educational assetts will come wrapped in 2/3rds ads

erm.
Actually, I have no idea why you would even assume that
because they already do?
you do realise this is an open source os right?
on unlocked hardware as well
its probably kinda crap, but its essentially a 1.0 version pushing the limits on shitty hardware
@JourneymanGeek ok, but the idea here is to 'connect" and OS or not there is usually always a direct too
a direct what?
where the phone software points.
take even the simple home page

essentially? It just runs firefox, or a cut down version of it.
Dont you figure that these people are getting paid for any of the software that has buttons aiming to big corporations?
no?
and that's quite a leap to assume so based off that article.

@JourneymanGeek Huh. I can get a much better tablet for that price :\
@Bob; to restate 'ow'
it isnt a leap to say that they could give away all the wheelborrows that you can use to haul the good they will sell you away

that review was a mauling ;p
which was why I linked it, before I got sidetracked by the whole silly the 'developing countries don't need technology' arguement

!!no
I would say they do not charge for the BAG when you walk out with $20 in groceries, but they do charge for the bags here :-) (green and recycle program)
heh, I have no idea what that has to do with making the tools for technology access available to the developing world.
@JourneymanGeek If i am in a cabin in the woods, because i can afford 2 homes, i do not need the technology either.
@JourneymanGeek i said it, multiple times, they are just trying to sell more stuff.

@Psycogeek: but you have the option of it.
@JourneymanGeek not at the cost of sattalite connections :-)
